Emmick Family History by Maude Emmick History
"I remember a story which they told on Uncle Big John. He was a pillar of the Methodist church, and was often called upon to pray. He had a hot temper and was subject to black moods. Once he embarrassed the minister, when he asked him to pray, by saying, 'Pray yourself, that's what we pay you for'."John is referenced by Maud as "Big John"; some later family stories confuse others Johns as Big John. Just too many Johns...
This reference shows the confusion:
Big John is the John below William Henry in the census. He married a sister of Delila Walker, named Lana, Lany, but the L of that time came out an S from the genealogist that I hired. I do not know what relationship Big John had to Little John.
