Mary STARR was born 1780. She died 1850 in Roane County, VA. Mary married William NUTTER on 13 Nov 1804 in Harriosn County, VA.

William died Mary continued the business and paid off the mortgage. She was a brave and courageous woman as was required for the times since the region was still very wild. Once she was followed by a panther and she knew the only way she could escape would to be frighten the animal and leave the area. She grabbed the tail of the "bell weather" cow and the cow dragged her to safety.

Thomas NUTTER [Parents] was born 1821 in Reedy Creek, Harrison County (Now Roane County), Virginia. He died 1890. Thomas married Martha MCDANIEL on 23 Dec 1842 in Kanawha County, VA.

When Thomas was eleven years old, he started walking to the Elk District in Kanawha County. His brother was working there in the salt business. After reaching the salt works near Malden, he found employment and later worked on a steamboat. He also operated a cooper shop. In 1857 he bought a farm near Mink in Elk District on which he lived until 1890 when he retired to Charleston, South Carolina.

At one time he was nominated for County Sheriff on the Republican ticket, but he was in the Home Guards and was a Colonel of the Militia and declined the honor. He was a member of the Home Guards from 1861 to 1865 during the Civil War. Thomas was self educated but he managed large business affairs. He was a member of the A.C. Church.

Martha MCDANIEL was born 1820. She died 1858. Martha married Thomas NUTTER on 23 Dec 1842 in Kanawha County, VA.


Levi NUTTER [Parents] was born 1825 in Reedy Creek, Harrison County (Now Roane County), West Virginia. He died 1912. Levi married Sarah Jane STARCHER on 1 Jan 1850 in Gilmer County, VA.

Sarah Jane STARCHER [Parents] was born 1829. She married Levi NUTTER on 1 Jan 1850 in Gilmer County, VA.
