Leek is a market town in the North Staffordshire Moorlands.

There were two local newspapers the Leek Post and the Leek Times--now combined.

This is an index primarily of surnames appearing in the local news items of the Leek Post in 1898 although there is a capacity for a local subject search too. There are over 13,500 entries.

A copy of this index on CD has been made available to Leek Library, where it may be consulted in person.

Postal searches can be made by us.  There is a charge of 2x2nd class stamps per name plus a sae.
Searches for a complete surname is £1 plus sae.

The information given includes the date of issue in which the name appears and usually the page and column.  We can arrange for photocopies of the page of entries or these can be obtained elsewhere.

Initial enquiries by email to ww1newspapers@yahoo.co.uk

Or by post to the address below

It is also possible by arrangement to purchase from us a CD of the whole index.

AMONG THE SURNAMES beginning with A are

Abbot, Abbott, Abel, Adam, Adams, Adcock, Adderley, Addy, Adern, Adnitt, Ainson, Ainsworth, Aird, Akeroyd, Akrigg, Alcock etc etc
This should provide  some indication of the extensive nature of the index
