The Acid Drop: Karl Nelson (AFR's Spike Dudley) takes the participants of this year's King of the Ring Tournament under the knife and places his bets... |
Jerry Lawler It’s quite obvious that Lawler, besides Goldust, is the least odds on favorite to win this year’s WWF/nWo King of the Ring. People seem to wonder, “How can anyone possibly think that this guy has any chance of making it out of the First Round?”. The answer is quite simple, Lawler has brains. |

Trust me, if there’s one thing Lawler knows how to do, it’s be annoying. As a matter of fact, being annoying is exactly how Lawler advanced in the first place. If you remember correctly, Lawler advanced by annoying Honky Tonk Man to the point where he just had to shut him up, so Honky Tonk Man blasted him with a guitar and Lawler advanced. Savage is notorious for his hot temper and this could be a key to Lawler getting by Macho Man. |
Goldust: Much like Lawler, Goldust isn’t much of an odds-on-favorite either. However, people seem to forget one thing Goldust has that everyone else in this year’s King of the Ring Tournament doesn’t have: experience. Goldust participated in the 1998 King of the Ring and made it all the way to the Semifinals. Experience could be the key to Goldust’s King of the Ring victory. |
Big Money: When Ted Dibiase said he had a big surprise, he wasn’t kidding. Big Money is definitely a force to be reckoned with. Big Money is over 500 lbs. and with Dibiase in his corner, there could be no stopping this monster from winning it all. |
Macho Man Randy Savage: The newest member of the nWo qualified by defeating Stone Cold Steve Austin in what many claim to be an upset. Savage is known for his intensity and ability to snap at any time. The nWo could also be a key factor in Savage’s path to the throne. If Savage can keep his cool and not get himself disqualified, he’s got this one won |
Bulletproof: Bulletproof is a brawler, albeit he is good at his style, but Disqualification could be his downfall. Like Ahmed, Bulletproof has the Nation backing him up and that can only be a positive factor. Bulletproof has also proven in the past that he never gets intimidated, as he has stepped up to challenges many times in the past when no one else in the Nation would. |
Hulk Hogan: Ah, yes. The mayor of Hulksvilleland. Hogan defeated a former King of the Ring winner, Mr. Perfect to qualify. If there’s one thing Hogan has behind him, it’s fan support. In a recent poll taken at breakingthenorm.com, more fans voted Hulk Hogan to become King of the Ring than anyone else in the tournament and that certainly isn’t a bad thing. And like Hogan says, “Anyone that isn’t a Hulksvilleland resident is an enemy. |
Ahmed Johnson Ahmed Johnson made it to the King of the Ring by defeating Papa Shango. Ahmed has the strength and size to get him through and having the Nation backing him up certainly doesn’t lower his chances either. So what could possibly be the one thing that holds back Ahmed Johnson from becoming the 2001 King of the Ring? Well my friend, just look below this sentence. |
Goldberg: Yep. Goldberg. Goldberg stormed through the Big Bossman to qualify for the tournament and as described by WWF/nWo analysts as “one of the fastest matches in awhile”. Goldberg has been known to destroy everything in his path while doing it quickly and with ease. Thus, making him my pick to become the 2001 King of the Ring. |
Other factors to consider..... - If Ahmed Johnson and Bulletproof were to meet in the Finals, who would the Nation be more in favor of? Would they interject themselves or would they just sit back and see who the better man is?- The Time Limit: Time could be a huge factor in many of the tournament matches. At only ten minutes a piece, time is limited. - Disqualification: For guys like Savage, Bulletproof, and Big Money, disqualification could play as a huge downfall. Savage is in danger of disqualification due to his quick temper and the New World Order getting caught in the act. Bulletproof is in danger of DQ as well due to his wrestling style and a possible Nation interference. Big Money is in danger of DQ due to his love of using weapons and not listening to authority, plus the chance of Dibiase getting caught, is a setback as well. Why Goldberg? Why did I pick Goldberg to win the King of the Ring? Well for many reasons: |
