Renato Abadilla scored 255 in the first game and a 195-pin average for the night
lifting the Sampaloc Spiders above JPRizal Jaguars for the championship (4-0).
The ever-resilient Jaguars made a good game out of it as they fought neck-and-neck
up to the last few frames of the match. However, balanced scoring won the match
for the Spiders. The Spiders decidedly won the first game by 50 pins (701-651).
But the last two games could have gone either way as the Spiders managed to win the
second and third game only with single-digit pin differences (607-601, 687-678).
Congratulations to the SAMPALOC SPIDERS!.
Week 26 will be very interesting as the top three teams battle for the PPBL 2000 crown.
The Jaguars whom three weeks ago seemed to have captured the title lost their last two
matches giving the two teams that are chasing them a mathematical chance of winning the
championship. The Jaguars need to secure at least two points when they face the Spiders
to seal the victory. On the other hand, the Spiders need to win all four points to avoid
the Coelhos from bolting to first place. For the Coelhos to have any chance of winning
the title, they need to win by a 4-0 margin against the Anacondas and hope that the Spiders
beat the Jaguars three-points-to-one. See Team Standings for more details.
THREE-WAY BATTLE FOR THE LAST TWO TOP-5 SPOTS
While the three-way mad scramble for the title is going on, three other teams will have
a three-way collision of their own. The Anacondas will try to win no less than two points
against their opponent to secure a top-five position while the Owls and the Falcons will
try to prey on each other to avoid elimination. Currently separated by only half-of-a-point,
only two among the three teams will walk away with trophies on their hands.
The JPRizal Jaguars coutinue to dominate
every team that stand on their way. They
are now ahead of the pack with 63 big points.
Led by Bono Ortiz and Liz Datu (in picture) together with
two high-scoring rookies, Tonette Fugen and
Willie Fontano, the Jags keep on roaring.
Catch them if you can.
Nonoy Rocero of the Lawton Lions bagged eleven strikes,
7-bagger and 4-bagger, out the possible twelve enroute
to his record-shattering game of 279. He also
registered his first 600-series of the season at 644.
Nonoy is one of the pioneers of this league and consitently
among the top ten bowlers every year. Well done!
Some of the PPBL bowlers who are members of the Kapatiran Church here in the Philadelphia
are holding their annual Valentine's Day concert. For details and ticket information please

The Kalentong Kangaroos got a big boost from Marilou Smith's best series yet (496 pinfalls)
as they lead all the teams in week five with 4 points and 1933 pinfalls. Their win
improved their total team points to nine.
RARE TRIPLE
Nick Escarcha of the Intramuros Iguanas shot a 135-135-135 series that earned him an
ABC/WIBC Triple-Game award. This is the first ABC/WIBC award of any form earned by a
Phillypinoy bowler this season. Two bowlers, Lani Medina and Rangie Zurbano, achieved
the same feat last season. Congratulations Nick.
BULL PENN
Penn Tanio is in the zone this season. He already has a total of four 500-series
after five weeks. His 533-series on week five bolstered his running average to
170.93 moving his individual ranking up to third passing Benjie Hinahon and his
room mate Edgar Ramilo. His team, the Bankusay Bulls, is currently fourth in the
team ranking with 13 points. Penn's next objective - "operation 600-series".

After a four-week slump, Arnold "Bono" Ortiz of JPRizal Jaguars finally got
back to his old form as he showed the way in week five with 553 pinfalls.
Bono was this league's first and second season top bowler. He took a leave of
absence last season. Now that he's really back we will definitely hear more
from him as the season progresses.
THANKSGIVING "GRACE"
Thanksgiving is just around the corner. But for Grace Sison and the Herran Hawks
it was on October 22, 1999 when Grace bagged two turkeys in one game. Grace has
been making big strides on her game this season. She almost broke the 200 mark on week 2
and now this. Her current running average is better than 130, more than 20 points
above her last season's average. Hoy Gracia, mag-blowout ka naman!

RAGING BULLS
Penn Tanio of the Bangkusay Bulls shot his first 200-game and his
second 500-series powering his team past Pasay Panthers, 4-0.
Also contributed to the Bulls cause was Eric Alvarez' 503-series outing.
The Conshohocken Coelhos' balanced performance proved to be the
difference when they swept the Kalentong Kangaroos, 4-0.
The Coelhos grabbed the league's top team ranking with seven points.
Most noticeable was Ms. Liz Mendanha's 30-points above average outing.
NINE-BAGGER
Bernard Landayan of the Ortigas Owls shot the leagues longest streak of strikes at 9.
He also shot a 6-bagger the same night as he led his team beating Ermita Eagles, 3-1.
IMPROVING FRANCIS
Francis Carangan of Herran Hawks shot a 189-206-187 series helping his team crush the Avenida Anacondas, 3-1.
Francis also improved his individual ranking to third ahead of Edgar Ramilo and Rico Lontoc.
If you want to know what or who inspires him - ask Francis :)
SPIDERS
Rotonda Roadrunners and Sampaloc Spiders swept their
season openers to lead all the teams going in to the
second week. The Roadrunners crushed the Quiapo Quails
behind Edgar Ramilo's 199-180-190 outing. Going against
the ghost team, the Spiders only needed to score 90% of
their average to garner their first four points of the season.
DEO LEADS
Joel Deo shot the week's best series, 223-178-169, to lead the
individual male and overall rankings. His team, the Pasay Panthers,
split the points with the Ortigas Owls.
