  • Well, I finally did it. I removed all the plastic from the back of my X1. It was easy. Just take all the plastic off the back and you will find the aluminum mounting for the brake light and blinkers. I masked off the area and painted the mounting black. Then I reattached the blinkers and brake light.

I removed the clear lens from the license plate light, cut a slot in the bottom of the brake light and super-glued the clear lens in place. That way a legal "white" light shines down on the license plate.

This hole is now filled. See below.

    Not finished

I relocated the seat lock. It works great in the new position.

It's all much cleaner if you ask me.

I started to build the trunk fill piece by measuring and marking.

Then I cut out the piece.

I painted the piece black and riveted it in place. Here is a view from inside the trunk. You can see the five rivets. Notice the relocated trunk lock.

I had planned on covering the wires and bolts by bending the piece to match the aluminum mount. I decided that it was too difficult for my backyard skills and tools.

So it is just one flat piece, of painted aluminum, riveted in place. But it don't look so bad if you asks me. :)

    5/12/99 UPDATE

I fabricated some brackets to change the angle of the license plate and provide a little more fender.
