UPDATE: I spoke with John at Force products today (3/30/99.) He is one cool dude. There is no problem returning the pipe. He is sorry it didn't work out. His business is well worth your business. It is really too bad because this jet-hotted pipe matched the PM wheels and looked excellent. I am thinking I'd like to maybe get the buell race pipe header jet-hotted. |
I had my service department install my Force Streetfighter pipe on Saturday 3/27/99. I could not romp on it because I had a new head and rings installed the same day and the bike needs a 200-mile break in again. There were some problems: The pipe contacted the chin fairing in 2 places, and the kickstand contacted the end of the pipe when it was extended. (I was told it does not do this on all X1s) So we ran the bike without the chin fairing. #1 the pipe is obnoxiously loud. Secondly, the pipe left the otherwise stock X1 engine stumbling badly from 2 to 3k RPMs. You can't just open the throttle all the way or the bike will just about die. It sputters and pops and basically won’t go until 3000 RPMs. But then I was on break in again so I wasn't supposed to go over 3,000. So I took the pipe off. Because of the poor fit and poor low-end performance, I am going to return it. Maybe the street-baffle will cure the low end stumble, but I am not sure I want to put anymore money into this. Thinking I'm gonna wait for the Buell race kit. |
I got the pipe in the mail today 3/23/99, it was ordered it on the 2nd. I got it with a silver jet hot coating. It came with one rubber isolator, one bracket and one bolt assembly. There were no instructions on which hole to put the isolator in. I'll have to call and ask. The first thing I did was to look in the end of the pipe. Sure enough, there is nothing inside but air, it is a straight-through pipe. I'll be updating the page as the project moves along. ![]() Here is what you get. An open ended pipe, a rubber isolator, a bolt, and a bracket. ![]() It does have a bung for the O2 sensor. ![]() |
