The first day had passed quickly. After being devided to three groups, we learned how to handle tools and what were expected for us to do during work camp.

After that, we took short shower one by one. There was only one shower to share with 10 other members. In the evening, we had a barbecue party and all of us tried hard to memorize each others' names.

Everybody looked exciting but a little shy at the same time. However, our bashfulness  didn't go long, not even one night!

From Monday to Friday 10 am to 4 pm

After we were divided into three groups, we started working as a group with one of local instructors. Vero, Giuseppe and Lee were placed to the same group with me. Our first mission was making picnic area. We uncovered top soil and discovered stones to make steps. Also, we brushed dead branches to make pathway. It wasn't easy work at all, but we enjoyed working and talking together. We taught traditional songs to each others and sang the song with one voice. Nice bracing summer breeze infused life into us.

Every 3 to 4 days, we switched our mission with other team members. It might have slowed finishing mission on time, however, we could experience a lot of different work in short time and we learned various skills.

From Monday to Friday, we worked from 10 to 4. 6 hours a day!? Hmm, we had tea time at 11 and ate lunch at 1. For the afternoon? We resumed working at 2? 3? Well... it's top secret.  ^^;

Aug 14, 2003  YK's Cooking

During work camp, I had two chances to cook for dinner. At first, I cooked curry and rice. The picture next to was taken while I was serving curry.

(Episode1) It happened suddenly while I was still serving. Our camp leader, Vero poured yogurt into the curry and ugly monster mixture (only to me -_-;) was entering to her mouth! I was more than shocked. How come it happened to mix curry and yogurt together!!! She said yogurt realses spicy from her burnning mouth. Hmm!  Anyway, I will never forget this.

For the last dinner(22th of August), I got one more chance to cook Korean dish. I chose 'Bulgogi' happily.

(Episode 2) However, we couldn't find sliced meat which is the most important part for cooking Bulgogi. I was very upset and felt helpless when I heard we only found four pound whole lump of meat. Guess what? For three hours, Marketa, one of our great leaders cut giant lump of meat to sliced pieces! She really made it! Our members liked Bulgogi much more than curry.

The photo next to was taken while Nur, Magalie and Selene were washing the dishes. How about me? Well, sufficient photographer doesn't need to work, but take great pictures for our members!

After finishing all the work, we took a stroll to have a look at what we had done for last 10 days. Then, we planted a tree all together and named her 'Juliet'.

We will come to see her someday. It's great to have someone waiting for us and one we can come to see anytime!

Travelling and picnic

One of the greatest opportunities for the work camp was that we could travel unique places which might have been impossible to see as a typical back packer.

In Wales, it's very easy to find wonderful places to go on a picnic and to take a walk. For the weekend and each afternoon after finishing tesk, we made plans and took a trip. To the river, mountain, beach, small villages, castles and to the capital city, Cardiff.

I had a ticket for London at 3 pm. When I left from Cardiff coach station, Selene, Marketa, Andrew, Giuseppe and Vero were there to see me off and say 'Good Bye'.

I took this last picture from the coach. They suddenly started singing the African song which Vero taught us during the work camp. It was such a beautiful and touching moment.
