29 DECEMBER 2004 : [1249] - WAR ON IRAQ - PART 1 Where to start with this big mess? As you may have noticed, this is part 1 of many parts to come. Why? Simply because this war isn't going to end any time soon and new stuff must be added as the months go on. This part will deal with how and why we got into this war. Well, how did we get into this war? You can say the president took advantage of the situation that occurred on 09/11/2004. Had those attacks never taken place, dumbass Bush would not have had the support to go after Iraq. After all, we had been attacked and we were concerned for our safety. So Bush came in to save the day by announcing the "pre-emptive" strike deal. The US can attack any country it chooses, whenever it chooses, if it deems it a threat even though that country may not have done anything to us. That is the basics of how we got into that war but it is not the reason why we got into it. Iraq posed no real threat to the US. It was simply a personal grudge that Bush wanted to settle for his family. Forget about the oil because that's just an added bonus. What some of you may or may not know is that the US actually supported Saddam in the 80's. Yes, I'll say it again. The US supported Saddam in the 80's. This was back in the Cold War era. Iran, Iraq's neighbor, was a Soviet ally and waged war on Iraq. Seeing how the oil was important to us and since we didn't want the Soviets controlling it, we came to Iraq's help. Though the war ended in a stalemate, Bush senior had made allies with Saddam. Then Saddam got a little cocky and wanted to continue its biological and chemical weapons program. He also wanted to research nuclear weapons. Well, the US didn't like that so they stepped in and tried to talk with Saddam. At one of these meetings, as Bush senior was leaving, an assassination attempt took place on him. He escaped and decided to teach Saddam a lesson on messing with the US president. That lesson was called the Gulf War. Needless to say, the US whooped Iraqi ass but didn't totally finish the job. Here is where little Bush comes in. He will carry on the family grudge. In one of his speeches, he actually admits it! In pushing his case for war, he says the following: "You people got to remember, this man is the one who tried to kill my father." If that's not enough proof for you to believe that this war was about a personal grudge then think about the following. The main reason we went to Iraq was because it posed an immediate danger due to Iraq having weapons of mass destruction. Weapons which have yet to be found and the fact that the reports of them having weapons were officially declared a forgery. Statements such as "when we go into that country we will be tripping over weapons of mass destruction." Having been to Iraq myself during Operation Iraqi Freedom, I don't recall tripping over anything but sand! Then there is the connection between Saddam and Osama Bin Laden. Yeah, that turn out to be as true as snow the color of blue. To make things more apparent that this war wasn't to disarm a nuclear power, think about North Korea. Officially, we don't take them seriously because they are just trying to get attention so we can give them more economic aid. Yes, I can understand that but come on! North Korea was taunting the US and the world by kicking inspectors out of the country, leaving the non-nuclear alliance treaty and saying that they are going to develop nuclear weapons! Do we step in and kick their ass? No, we go after Iraq instead! Now granted that we don't want China getting involved in an arm conflict with us, we still should have done something more than just ignore them. So there is your proof. If you refuse to believe it then you will be a blind follower all you life. I will state two more things before closing out this article. Morality and oil. Now that we see the big mess that came from Iraq, we have changed our stance on why we went there in the first place. Saddam was an evil man who gassed his own people. He was an "evildoer." It was the right decision because he needed to be stopped. Ok, so what about the other 100 countries who have dictators just like Saddam or worse? You don't see the US going after them do you? Now the part about oil. Yes many people say it was mainly about the oil. It was not mainly about the oil but it did play a role in the decision. Some of our ally, oil selling countries are running low on this resource. No, it won't be gone tomorrow but in about 50 years it will. Iraq has the capability of possibly being the largest oil country whose resources have not been tapped. So the US sees that country as a future need of ours. It would also eliminate OPEC from selling oil at too high a price since we could always get better prices from Iraq. Moreover, Russia was making contracts to rebuild Iraq's oil infrastructure once sanctions were lifted from the country. Although the Cold War is over (at least in broad daylight), we don't want Russian influence in that oil rich country. The next part will deal with the current situation in Iraq. |

27 DECEMBER 2004 : [1120] - FAKE NATIONAL PRIDE National pride. It is something few people know about yet a lot of people like to flaunt it. I'm pretty much going to talk about Hispanics/Latinos, however, you can apply this to any other race. When you have pride in your country that is a great thing for you and those around you but do me a favor, stop and think about it for a second. If you are just doing it to get attention or you don't even know shit about your country then don't do it. I see a whole of Hispanics putting their flags up and all that shit. I don't mind it as long as you don't overdue it and you are honest about it. You have some people proclaiming they are Hispanic/Latino but don't know the first thing about their origins. The one that really gets me is when they can't even speak, read or write Spanish. How Hispanic are you if you can't do those basic things? Not much! Just because Hispanics are enjoying a current popular culture trend in the US, it doesn't mean for you to go and start to buy some flags and proclaim you're Hispanic if you never did it before. |

25 DECEMBER 2004 : [1030] - HOLIDAYS What is it about holidays that people find special? I think I stopped celebrating worthless days when I was about 14. Really, the fact that people forget the reason for the holidays is bad enough not to keep on celebrating. Christmas has been turned into a day of gift giving and family togetherness. Whatever happened to celebrating the birth of Christ? Probably the ones that actually remember this are the ones who go to church. All holidays are fake nowadays. People just use them as a way to get off work and get themselves gifts. Really, is one day different from the next in regards to holidays? That's the funniest thing to me. Nothing has changed yet people get excited. It's like saying you're drunk when you have been drinking near beer. All of a sudden some magic happens when the clock strikes 1200AM? Funny, I didn't feel any different. So do me a favor and stopped celebrating meaningless days. However, I will be a hypocrite and say that I do enjoy the days off work. I'm like a Jew getting days off for Christmas when I don't celebrate it. |
