X-Philes for Mulder

The XPFM effort was established on these grounds:

1. That we fully accept the requirement for a new format for XF, having gladly accepted DD's reasoning for wanting to reduce his role, and eventual move on to other ventures... should that be his wish. We are NOT critical of David's decision AT ALL.

2. That while personally we do not particularly care to - or definitely will not (varying with each individual) - watch XF without David/Mulder in it, we are *not* against the show going forward beyond season 8. We may not necessarily think its a great idea, but hey, not our decision.

We are cognizant that the show is made for business reasons as well as creative ones, and with so many careers and livelihoods riding on it's future - including David's (who recently indicated a willingness for future involvement), Gillian's (who signed for an additional season), Mitch's (who has signed for two more years) and Robert's (similar) - we would not presume to dictate whether any character should be exited from the show, nor that the show itself should be finalised.

3. That we are NOT trying to tell CC et al. how to write the show. We may be expressing our dismay at some ideas we've heard about (as we have always done in the last 7 years), but we will NOT try to dictate to him. Beyond anything else, there is no point - as owners of the show and the character, 1013 and FOX have all the control.

We are merely communicating our concerns, our perspectives, and our wishes.

4. And this is the primary one.....

That we ARE trying to seek recognition of the importance of Mulder, in terms of the history of the show and on what it was based, and to many Philes. With the knowledge that David may not be returning (as far as we know) we ARE communicating our desire to see a just and dignified exit for the character of Mulder, one which does not re-write the history of the character - nor those closest to him - nor give lie to the basis on which the character and the show became so loved, one which does credit to the character, and one which does not use the exit as a tacky attempt purely to shock or grab ratings, nor ruin watching the re-runs and tapes/DVDs FOX would like us to purchase.

Should David decide to return to the show (on TV or in future films), we will be glad of his decision. We hope, however, that our views are still heard, and that his character is still treated with the same dignity and justice, and respect for the 7 year history of the character, that we have been seeking recognition of in the event of the character's exit.

5. That we are NOT anti-Doggett, nor anti Robert Patrick. As stated in the opening gambit, we admire any actor who would take on such a role in such a well-established cult and mainstream hit. We don't like how the character and new format has been promoted - believing it would have been more acceptable to ease the character in rather than have him rammed down our throats - but we have nothing against his presence in the show, particularly if such presence gives those who create and produce it the ability to continue working.

6. That through the website we have established we have provided a means for Philes who believe in the campaign to express their support, and their personal views, concerns and feelings. However, not all views expressed are shared by the organisers, nor are they necessarily part of the message on which the campaign was founded and continues to run. (eg. refer point 5)

7. That while we may use the 'we' a lot in our messages, we *are* cognizant of the fact that we do not speak for *all* Philes... just a significant number (from our perspective <g>) who share similar views.

8. That we have started this campaign purely because all of the media PR thus far has all but ignored David's contribution, and the importance of Mulder to the show and to the Philes who have followed it so faithfully for seven years. We don't presume to *know* they are going to handle Mulder's possible eventual exit badly - we are just worried, with some basis for being so, that they will.

That's it.
