The Phoenix Suns were inducted into the NBA in 1968. As with all expansion teams, they started out slowly, but moved up quickly. The very next year they got a hold of such big names as Connies Hawkins and Paul Silas. The Suns have yet to win a Championship, but they post good teams every year. In the highly competitive Western Division, the Suns almost always manage to make it to the playoffs. They've won numerous conference titles, and a couple division titles. Recently, they've been plagued by injuries. They're in the playoffs again, and they're posting a strong team. Top

The current Suns mascot is the Gorilla. Why a gorilla you ask? Well, the story goes that one year (1980), the Gorilla showed up on the court during a break, and delivered a singing telegram to the whole Suns team. Apparently, someone was impressed because he's been invited to stick around for the long haul. The Gorilla does many oncourt stunts between breaks and during halftime shows, such as jumping off of trampolines for a monster dunk. He's always ready to pep up the crowd, or intimidate the other mascot. During his off time, the Gorilla likes to help out in the community. He helps to raise money for charity, and sponsors his very own book reading incentive program. The community loves him because he loves to help out. The fans love him because he's so energetic. The Gorilla is a much loved mascot in this city, and for good reason too. Top

The Suns' best chance for a championship probably came in the 1992-'93 season when they went to the finals against the bulls. In Suns' Lore, its know as "The Shot." The Suns were up by 2, with only a few second left on the clock. But there was John Paxon, wide open in the corner to sink a 3-point dagger into the hearts of Suns fans all over. If you want the full story, go here. That's just one example of the excitement in any of the Suns game!! Top
