Danger, Danger, Will Robinson!

Notes:

Once you tuned your AM radio to 640 or 1240 kilocycles for news and official information, you were supposed to head to the nearest fallout shelter and hope to be protected against atomic fallout. Although most fallout shelters were probably converted to storage rooms years ago, they seem to be experiencing a small resurgence in the wake of the September 11TH terrorist attacks. If you want to see a true relic of the Cold War era, look for an original fallout shelter sign around 34TH and Washington in Ogden, Utah. I'm surprised no one has taken down the sign and tried to sell it on eBay! You'd be surprised what an original fallout shelter sign will fetch these days.

This concludes your tour of David's Antique Radio Room. I hope you've enjoyed seeing some of the unique designs of post World War II American radios. Stay safe and remember: real radios glow in the dark!
