MY GIRLS

UPDATE: January 14, 2005
It seems impossible to me that my last entry here was over a year ago. Girls are getting big and are halfway through first grade now. I signed them up for swimming with an organized swim team. They seem to like it so far. Firstborn got to spend the afternoon with her friend today. The friend's mother picked them up from school. Firstborn was excited about doing something new, but also very concerned about secondborn not having anybody to play with in extended day. They are really twins.

UPDATE: February 6, 2004
Firstborn: I'm thinking of an animal that begins with the
              letter W.
Momma:   Walrus?
Firstborn: No.
Momma:   Weasel?
Firstborn: No.
Momma:   Wren?
Firstborn: No.
Momma:   I give up.
Firstborn: Water-lovin' black jaguar!

Tooth out!

UPDATE: January 31, 2004
Today firstborn has her first "wiggly" tooth. She is very excited about this!

UPDATE: September 27 2003
I took my firstborn to Fulshear, Texas to have a look around this tiny town where time stopped about 1957. We visited some horses and fed them grass. The older horse drooled as he ate and we got some on our hands. When we were leaving, firstborn said she was getting tired and wanted to put her thumb in her mouth to suck. I said, "What? Don't do that; you've got horse spit on your hands and we don't know where that horse has been!" Firstborn turns to me and says, "Canada."

UPDATE: September 2003
One month into kindergarden and so far, so good. If it is not cold and if we are not late, we bike to school. I am no longer allowed to walk my girls into the kindergarden hall so I watch them walk into school by themselves. It is hard for me to do this. I think they are really growing and getting big. They aren't babies anymore.

UPDATE: July 2003
My second born has taken to mimicking various TV shows at inopportune moments. Last week we were heading into the donut shop. Loudly, she said "Aha!" I looked around for some stellar event and saw NOTHING. She continued, "One of them must be the rabbit!"

UPDATE: May 2003
In May we had jasmine growing in the backyard. It smelled really good and looked even better so I cut some sprigs to bring into work and I put them in the car. When my first born got into the car for the ride to daycare I said, "Look at this. Isn't this pretty? Doesn't it smell good? What do you call this flower?". First born looked at me (deadpan) and said, "Camouflage."

THE ORIGINAL STORY
My girls are fraternal twins. They were born just one minute apart via c-section.

This summer they will be five years old. I registered them for kindergarden this month.

Truth be told, it is a long and not so easy road to have twins, but I am most proud of my girls and everyday it gets a little bit easier.

Recently, my husband and I attended a baby shower for a co-worker whose wife is pregnant with fraternal twin girls. We offered them the following advice:

"Always remember, it could have been three."
