KNITTING
UPDATE: January 14, 2005
I have been working on one mitten for weeks. It is a stripped pattern. I am doing well and am almost finished. It looks like a real mitten!
UPDATE: November 25, 2004
It has been months and months since I have picked up the needles!
I sent the purple scarf to my sister and she loved it.
UPDATE: January 31, 2004
I have knitted two scarfs so far and made several attempts at mittens.
The scarfs are passable as gifts for the blind. Actually, one is quite pretty. I used Lions Brand Homespun purple for this scarf. It was knitted in garter stitch, but with size 19 needles for a large stitch. I am trying to work up the guts to send it to my sister.
I am having serious issued with mittens. In a desperate moment, I attended a knitting guild meeting a few weeks ago. I'll tell you: those women may be old, but they can knit! On their advice, I abandoned the two needle method (link below) and am trying to learn how to knit in the round, which ain't no easy thing. I've decided this is the perfect way to drive myself crazy.
ORIGINAL STORY
In the spring of 1998 I purchased a book called First Steps in Knitting.
At home on bedrest, I learned casting and the knit stitch before my girls were born that summer.
And time passed...
Just six months ago, I was finally able to come back to my knitting.
(So, if anyone asks you what it is like to have twins, say, "It will take
you five years to read a 20 page picture book.")
