The "Hallelujah" is a one day Christian festival.
It is held the first Saturday
in October. The event is free to the public.
The "Hallelujah" has many attractions such as:
games and activities for youth, a parade through downtown Manchester,
raft race, booths, food, and especially great gospel music.
There is a main stage that the festival
centers around and great Christian music
is being performed all day. We hope that you
come and join us and spend two days
worshiping a God who is worthy
to be worshiped!
The Past
The "Hallelujah" originated from Agape Unlimited,
Inc. A group of lay people served as the Board of Directors
to minister to the needs of Clay County. Dr. Bill Becknell,
Doug Abner, John Becknell, Rusty Roberts, and Roy Rice started
a clothing store, jail ministry, and a twenty-four hour prayer line
through Agape Unlimited. Their headquarters was located
in downtown Manchester above the old Western Auto store. The
"Hallelujah" was not part of the original
plan of Agape Unlimited. But, soon after, God moved
these individuals to organize it. The idea
behind the event was to unite the body
of Christ and to be a witness to all of Kentucky.
The first "Hallelujah", which was originally
called a "Praise Gathering", was held in
1979 at the city walking park. They estimated
around 600 people attended. After the first
year the "Hallelujah" boomed. Year
after year larger crowds were gathering. Families
would plan their vacations to attend the
"Hallelujah". It drew people from several
different states. In the last few years of the
all day Christian festival there were crowds
estimated around 20,000. At one time the "Hallelujah"
was billed as the largest U.S., one day,
free Christian festival. The "Hallelujah"
was known for its parade, fireworks,
and gospel singing. Some of the groups that performed
were Heaven Bound, The Primitives, The Hemphills,
Wendy Bagwell, The Paynes, and Uncle Alf
and the Lefeveres. During the days of the "Hallelujah"
there was one day a year that Baptists, Pentecostals,
Holiness, Methodist, Presbyterian, Catholic
and several other denominations worked together
for the cause of Christ. The "Hallelujah"
ended in 1989 due to shortage of workers.
An old adage says, "if you don’t
know history, you are doomed to repeat
it." So, let’s not allow this "Hallelujah"
to end.
The Present
Yahweh Ministries, Inc. was formed in August 2001
for the sole purpose of re-establishing the "Hallelujah".
Early in 2003 a group of individuals came together
through prayer and concern for Clay County.
The first "Hallelujah" since 1989
was scheduled for October 4th 2003.
Yahweh Ministries felt that Clay County needed
taken back for Jesus Christ. They knew
that this was the perfect venue to use for born
again believers of Clay County to come
together and take a stand for Christ.
The Future
The "Hallelujah" is more than
a festival with a parade, gospel singing,
booths, and games. It is a spiritual battle for our
County. In a world of moral decline, where wrong
is right and right is wrong, we must take a stand against
Satan because he is taking a stand against
Christians. The Devil is taking our families,
marriages, sons, and daughters through greed,
jealousy, sexual immorality, and drugs.
Satan has gotten a foothold in our County
because we, born again believers, have
allowed him. Let’s stand for Jesus
because He first stood for us on
a hill called Mt. Calvary.
