ABOUT GOD

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He is sovereign, holy, righteous, omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, and immutable (never changes). God exists in eternity and is not bound by time. He eternally exists in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God in which we call the Trinity.

Genesis 1:1,26,27

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Then God said, "Let us make man in our image"…So God created man in His own image, in the image of God he created him.

Psalm 90:2

Before the mountains were born or You brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

Exodus 15:18

"The Lord will reign for ever and ever."

Matthew 28:19

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

1 Peter 1:2

…who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by His blood.

II Corinthians 13:14

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

ARTICLE 2

ABOUT JESUS CHRIST

Jesus is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He bore the penalty of mankind’s sin. Never becoming a sinner but receiving the punishment due sin. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Mathew 1:23

"The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" – which means, "God with us."

John 1:1-3

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.

Hebrews 4:15

…but we have One who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet was without sin.

Mark 12:29

the Lord our God, the Lord is one.

John 17:22

I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one:

Hebrews 1:3

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.

ARTICLE 3

ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their sin and need for Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit never brings glory to Himself but always points to Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, gifts for serving, understanding spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. As Christians we seek to live under His control daily.

II Corinthians 3:17

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is , there is freedom.

John 16: 7-8

"But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. When He comes, He will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment.

John 14:16,17

"And I will ask the Father, an He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you."

I Corinthians 2:12, 3:16

We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.

Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?

Ephesians 1:13,14

Having believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession – to the praise of His glory.

Galatians 5:25

Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

ARTICLE 4

ABOUT THE BIBLE

The Bible is God’s Word to us. It demonstrates how we are to relate to God and to our fellow man. Human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit wrote it. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God it is the truth without mixture of error. The criterion by which the Bible is to be interpreted is Jesus Christ.

II Timothy 3:16

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correction and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

II Peter 1:20,21

Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 12:6

And the words of the Lord are flawless.

Proverbs 30:5

Every word of God is flawless.

Matthew 5:18

I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

ARTICLE 5

ABOUT HUMAN BEINGS

People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Mankind is marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin". This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life. Man is incapable of saving himself. He is in desperate need of the Savior.

Genesis 1:27

So God created man in His own image.

Psalm 8:3-6

When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place, what is man that You are mindful of him, the son of man that You care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You make him ruler over the works of Your hands; you put everything under his feet.

Romans 3:23, 6:23

…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

ARTICLE 6

ABOUT SALVATION

Salvation is God’s free gift to us in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by faith in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. Every true believer is kept by the power of God through faith.

Regeneration, or new birth, is a work of God's grace whereby believers become new creatures in Christ Jesus. It is a change of heart wrought by the Holy Spirit through conviction of sin to which the sinner responds in repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Repentance and faith are inseparable experiences of grace. Repentance is a genuine turning from sin toward God. Faith is the acceptance of Jesus Christ and is commitment of the entire personality to Him as Savior and Lord. Justification is God's gracious and full acquittal upon principles of His righteousness of all sinners who repent and believe in Christ. Justification brings the believer into a relationship of peace and favor with God.

Sanctification is the experience, beginning in regeneration, by which the believers set apart to God's purposes, and is enabled to progress toward moral and spiritual perfection through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit dwelling in him. Growth in grace should continue throughout the regenerated person's life.

Glorification is the culmination of salvation and is the final blessed and abiding state of the redeemed.

Romans 3:23, 6:23

…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ephesians 2:8-9

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.

John 5:24, 10:29, 14:6

"I tell you the truth, whoever hears my words and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over for death to life."

…no one can snatch them out of my hand…no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.

"I am the way ant the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Titus 3:5

He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy.

John 6:44

"No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day."

ARTICLE 7

ABOUT ETERNITY

People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with God is eternal life and heaven. Heaven and hell are real places of eternal existence.

John 3:16, 14:17; Romans 6:23, 8:17-18; Revelation 20:15; I Corinthians 2:7-9

ARTICLE 8

ABOUT LAST THINGS

God, in His own time and in His own way, will bring the world to its appropriate end. According to His promise, Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory to the earth; the dead will be raised, and Christ will judge all men in righteousness. The unrighteous will be consigned to Hell, the place of everlasting punishment. The righteous in their resurrected and glorified bodies will receive their reward and will dwell forever in Heaven with the Lord.

ARTICLE 9

ABOUT STEWARDSHIP

God is the source of all blessings, temporal and spiritual; all that we have and are we owe to Him. Christians have a spiritual debtorship to the whole world, a holy trusteeship in the gospel, and a binding stewardship in their possessions. They are therefore under obligation to serve Him with their time, talents, and material possessions, and should recognize all these as entrusted to them to use for the glory of God and for helping others. According to the Scriptures, Christians should contribute of their means cheerfully, regularly, systematically, proportionately, and liberally for the advancement of the Redeemer's cause on this earth.

ARTICLE 10

GOD'S PURPOSE OF GRACE

Election is the gracious purpose of God, according to which He regenerates, sanctifies, and glorifies sinners. It is consistent with the free agency of man, and comprehends all the means in connection with the end. It is a glorious display of God’s sovereign goodness, and is infinitely wise, holy, and unchangeable. It excludes boasting and promotes humility. Wiest stated, "There is nothing in the sin-darkened heart of a sinner which would reach out and appropriate the Lord Jesus as Savior. The hand of faith must be energized or motivated by the Holy Spirit. He supplies the faith necessary. Salvation is a work of God from start to finish. And yet it is true that each lost sinner must by an act of his will place his faith in the Savior. He has that responsibility. ‘Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you’ (John 15:16), is sublimely true. But ‘whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely’ (Rev. 22:17), is also true. We cannot reconcile or understand these things, but we can trust God for them and believe them."

All true believers endure to the end. Those whom God has accepted in Christ, and sanctified by His Spirit, will never fall away from the state of grace, but shall persevere to the end. Believers may fall into sin through neglect and temptation, whereby they grieve the Spirit, impair their graces and comforts, bring reproach on the cause of Christ, and temporal judgments on themselves, yet they shall be kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation.

ARTICLE 11

THE CHRISTIAN AND THE SOCIAL ORDER

Every Christian is under obligation to seek to make the will of Christ supreme in his own life and in human society. Means and methods used for the improvement of society and the establishment of righteousness among men can be truly and permanently helpful only when they are rooted in the regeneration of the individual by the saving grace of God in Christ Jesus. The Christian should oppose in the spirit of Christ every form of greed, selfishness, and vice. He should work to provide for the orphaned, the needy, the aged, the helpless, and the sick. Every Christian should seek to bring industry, government, and society as a whole under the sway of the principle of righteousness, truth, and brotherly love. In order to promote these ends, Christians should be ready to work with all men of good will in any good cause, always being careful to act in the spirit of love without compromising their loyalty to Christ and His truth.

ARTICLE 12

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Church and state should be separate. The state owes to every church protection and full freedom in the pursuit of its spiritual ends. In providing for such freedom no ecclesiastical group or denomination should be favored by the state more than others. Civil government being ordained of God, it is the duty of Christians to render loyal obedience thereto in all things not contrary to the revealed will of God. The church should not resort to the civil power to carry on its work. The gospel of Christ contemplates spiritual means alone for the pursuit of its ends. The state has no right to impose penalties for religious opinions of any kind. The state has no right to impose taxes for the support of any form of religion. A free church in a free state is the Christian ideal, and this implies the right of free and unhindered access to God on the part of all men, and the right to form and propagate opinions in the sphere of religion without interference by the civil power.

ARTICLE 13

CHURCH ORDANANCES

Section 13.1. Baptism. The Greek word "baptizo" which means "to bury or immerse" is a command of God. The one baptism spoken of in the Scriptures refers to the Baptism of the Holy Ghost, meaning to be totally immersed or covered by the Holy Spirit of God. This experience occurs when one accepts/receives Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, believing that Jesus died for sin, was buried, and rose again from among the dead on the third day as the Scriptures says. In remembrance of that sacrificial act, water baptism is the form by which this ordinance is kept. Water baptism is a representation of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ not a right of passage for church membership. Being immersed under the water, we are buried in His likeness. Coming up out of the water we are resurrecting to new life, in His likeness to begin a new life in Christ. It represents what has already taken place in the life of the new believer. They have died to the old self and have been resurrected in Christ. This ordinance should not be used as a membership right in order to join a particular denomination or church body.

Romans 6:4

We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

Matthew 28:19

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Section 13.2. The Lord’s Supper. During the last days of Jesus’ earthly ministry, the Lord celebrated His final meal with His disciples. This meal, representative of His Body and Blood which was given freely for our justification and reconciliation, was and is to be a memorial of His death till He comes again. The bread representing His Body and the fruit of the vine represents His Blood. The supper "shows forth", depicts, dramatizes, pictures the suffering death of our Lord on the cross. (1 Cor. 11:23-26)

ARTICLE 14

THE CHURCH

The church is not a building. It is not a structure. The church is the makeup of all born again believers. Anyone who has placed their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is a member of THE Church. Mankind has divided around denominational borders. Different doctrinal issues determine which camp you belong. I truly believe that there are born again Christians in different denominations.

The purpose of the church is to glorify God: By celebrating God’s Presence in Worship; (John 4:24; Psalm 96:6-7)By communicating God’s Word through evangelism; (Matt. 28:1920;Acts1:8)By incorporating God’s family into our fellowship; (I John 1:7; John 13;34-35)By educating God’s people through discipleship; (Ehp. 4:11-13; Heb. 6:1)By demonstrating God’s love through ministry; (I Pet. 4:10-11; Gal. 5:13)

ARTICLE 15

SPIRITUAL OFFICES

Section 15.1. Qualifications. Jesus Christ Himself, through His apostles, detailed the

qualifications and requirements of a Pastor, Bishop, Elder, Presbyter. These need no amendments. These are found in I Tim. 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9; and I Peter 5:1-4.

Section 15.2. The Pastor. The Pastor shall be the spiritual leader of the Church. The Church and the Deacons shall support the Pastor with their prayers and finances in such a manner as to allow him the greatest time for edifying (building up of) the Church and instruction of the Word of God. It shall be the duty of the Pastor to proclaim the Word of God to the Church, administer ordinances of the Word of God, to watch over the personal experience and life of the members —exhorting, admonishing, reproving, rebuking those trusted to his care and to perform the various other duties incumbent on his office.

Section 15.3. Qualification of Deacon. Paul, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, set out the qualifications for the ministry of deacon in 1 Timothy 3:8-13. These qualifications are clear and authoritative.

Section 15.4. The Deacon. A deacon, according to scripture, is a servant of the people not a dictator or CEO of a corporation. The word deacon in the Greek actually means: one who waits on tables. Acts chapter six lays out the reason for a deacon in the church body. As need grew in the church for needs to be met, the first 7 deacons were ordained. They were ordained only because of a growing need in the church. Their job was to minister to the needs of the people while the Apostles devoted themselves to the ministry of the word of God. (Acts 6:1-7)

ARTICLE 16

ETERNAL SECURITY

Section 16.1. The Law. "If we miss the unique nature of the Mosaic Law we are all too likely to fall into the same errors which plagued later generations of Jews, and have warped the lives of many Christians. If we miss the uniqueness of the Law, we’re likely to misunderstand the nature of our redemption and the role of faith, both in salvation and in our subsequent Christian life." It is a required response to the relationship He initiated. The law was never intended to save man but to point him to Christ. It acted like a mirror for man to see that his "good" was not good enough. The Law was and is not a way to make anything perfect, justify sin, gain righteousness, a way to give peace to the heart, or a way to give life. This only comes through the blood of Jesus Christ. So, if man places his faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and he breaks one of the commands of God he has not lost his salvation.

Hebrews 7:11

"If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the law was given to the people), why was there still need for another priest to come—one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron?"

Acts 13:38-39

"Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses.

Romans 3:20-28

"Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law? No, but on that of faith. For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law."

Galatians 2:21

"I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!"

Hebrews 9:9

"The Holy Spirit was showing by this that the way into the Most Holy Place had not yet been disclosed as long as the first tabernacle was still standing. This is an illustration for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered were not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper."

Galatians 3:21

"Is the law, therefore, opposed to the promises of God? Absolutely not! For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come by the law. But the Scripture declares that the whole world is a prisoner of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe."

Section 16.2. By Faith. The Bible clearly teaches that it is man’s faith that saves him. It is not the obedience to any law or his own righteousness. Even in the Old Testament the way of salvation was through faith. The Bible tells us that Abraham’s faith was credited to him as righteousness. The way to salvation has always been the same and will remain that way.

Genesis 15:6

Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.

Romans 3:21-24

But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

Section16.3. The Work of the Holy Spirit. At the point that a person is saved by grace through faith, that person is permanently sealed by the Holy Spirit. That person is forever saved. There is no possibility of falling away or losing one’s salvation. Their salvation was not a work of theirs and therefore they can not undo what has been done. What Christ did on Calvary’s cross was permanent and complete. When someone is covered by the blood of Christ their salvation is permanent and complete.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22

Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

Ephesians 1:13-14

And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

Ephesians 4:30

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

John 19:30

When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

ARTICLE 17

MISCELANNEOUS ISSUES

Section 17.1. Worship. Worship is a lifestyle not a once a week event. Worship is not a style of music or a set agenda for a service. Worship is an encounter with God whereby the believer sees God for who He is (Holy, Righteous, Omnipresent, Omniscient, etc..) and then sees himself for who he is (sinful, depraved, ruined, corrupted, etc.). Then the believer repents and turns to God changing their life. The net result of this act of worship is a changed life that reaches out to a lost world to tell them about the Good News. Henry Blackaby stated, "Genuine worship is always transformational, but we cannot transform our lives. That is God’s work…Only one kind of worship is acceptable to God. We must not let the world draw us away from His standard…To depart from God’s Word or standard in worship is fatal, no matter how innovative we may think we are. To experiment for experiment’s sake is dangerous. The obsession with being creative or innovative can lead to substituting for the real. In worship the criterion is never how people are responding to us but how God is responding to us…But it must be remembered, worship throughout the Bible, and to this very day, is the exclusive prerogative of God’s people. Worship was designed by God for His covenant people. Only those in the covenant relationship can worship. Worship was not designed for "lost" people. They cannot truly worship because they do not have a saving relationship with God. Therefore, God’s people must worship. If "worship services" are turned into "evangelistic services," God’s people will "die" for lack of worship."

Isaiah 6:1-8

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory." At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. "Woe to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty." Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, "See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for." Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"

John 4:23

"Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."

Section 17.2. Husband & Wife Relationship. The marriage covenant between a woman and a man was the first institution that God created. In the Garden of Eden God saw that man was in need of a helper and nothing on earth was suitable. So, God created a woman out of Adam’s rib. God did not create her lower than Adam or above Adam. But God gave Adam a partner. Not withstanding, God did in fact make man the head of the relationship. This is not man’s doings it is God’s. God created this order. A wife should be submitted to her husband as long as his leadership is not in direct violation of God’s Word. Likewise, a husband should love his wife as Christ loved the church. She should submit to her husband regardless of whether he fulfills his half and he likewise.

Colossians 3:18-19

Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.

Ephesians 5:22-28

Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

Section 17.3. Women’s Role in the Church. God put in place a structure of government from the Garden of Eden. God placed man as the leader not a dictator. Man is to lead his home as well as the Church. The Scriptures call for a man to be the Pastor of a church and other leadership positions. But, women play a vital role in the body of Christ. The Apostle Paul received most of his support on his missionary journeys by women. The Samaritan woman at the well after having a life changing experience with Jesus went off and acted as a missionary to her own people and many were saved. Even though women play a vital role in the body, God intends for man to lead.

1 Corinthians 11:3

Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.

1 Corinthians 11:8-10

For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head.

1 Timothy 3:1-13

Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task. Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect. (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?) He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil. He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap. Deacons, likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons. In the same way, their wives are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything. A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well. Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.

Section 17.4. Church Discipline. There are many who say that we can not judge others and they are correct in the aspect of salvation. But, we are called to be a judge of spirits. We are to be ministers of reconciliation. Always focused on bringing the lost to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and calling on Christians to repent and turn from their wicked ways. The Bible calls for Christians to live a holy life. When Christians live lives with willful sin in their lives it not only dishonors the name of Christ but it destroys the reputation of the church. So, God set in place a method to deal with sin inside the body of believers. This is something that is not practiced much in church today but it should be. We are to go to an individual and talk to them about their sin. If that person refuses to adhere to Godly advise and correction given in love then you are to take two or three to that person. If the individual still refuses and continues in his sin then you should take it before the church. The church should then treat that individual as a lost person. The key to church discipline is love and prayer.

1 Corinthians 5:2-12

Shouldn’t you rather have been filled with grief and have put out of your fellowship the man who did this?… hand this man over to Satan, so that the sinful nature may be destroyed and his spirit saved on the day of the Lord…Expel the wicked man from among you.

Matthew 18:15-17

"If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

Section 17.5. Denominational Issues. Working with other denominations is sometimes difficult. Not all denominations have the same doctrinal beliefs. There are issues that we can disagree on and work together. But, when it comes to the key doctrinal issues such as the Diety of Christ, virgin birth, sinless life of Christ, complete atonement of Jesus’ blood, sinful man, and a works based salvation we can not agree to work together because we teach two different gospels. We can not join together in the name of love and unity for the glory of God with others who teach and preach a different gospel, which is no gospel at all. If we do not portray the truth of the gospel we are irresponsible and will be held accountable. God has entrusted to His children His precious Word and the Gospel story and we should be good stewards with it. God cannot get glory when true Christian Biblical doctrine condones false doctrine. We should not be seen as endorsing their misguided beliefs that are destructive.

Matthew 7:15-16

"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?"

Matthew 16:6

"Be careful," Jesus said to them. "Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees."

2 Corinthians 11:14-15

for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

Galatians 1:6-9

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!

Colossians 2:8

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.

1 Timothy 1:3-11

As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than God’s work—which is by faith. The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Some have wandered away from these and turned to meaningless talk. They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm. We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. We also know that law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.

1 Timothy 4:15-16

Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

1 Timothy 6:3-4

If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, he is conceited and understands nothing.

1 Timothy 6:20-21

Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, which some have professed and in so doing have wandered from the faith. Grace be with you.

2 Timothy 4:3-5

For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

Titus 2:1

You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine.

2 Peter 2:1-2

But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.

Revelation 2:18-20

"To the angel of the church in Thyatira write: These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze. I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first. Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols.
