The family finally bought a snowmobile. It's a Polaris Indy 500. The boys love it!! We had some
early snow up at camp and my whole family and my wife's sister's family went to camp for a
weekend. As I've indicated earlier, camp during the winter is hard work. We need to carry
everything in and out of camp with a dogsled towed behind the sleds. Because of the freezing
temperatures all food is carried in and with children food is more important than the beer. One does
not realize just how heavy a couple cases of beer is until you cary it for a few miles on your back!!
Here are th epictures of a few weekends at camp.
Here's the boys sliding down the hill on the side of
camp.
This is my brother in law playing on
"old faithful"..a 1971 Ski-Doo È lan. My nephew will play on the sled at camp which is where
it is kept during the winter. It is a very light sled that can be used to "break" trail in deep snow. If it
becomes "buried" it is much easier to pick up than a newer sled.
This is what it takes to get water at camp in the winter. We do have a well with a hand pump but in the winter we use the spring so that we do not run the risk of the water line freezing. We use the spring that is located just off the road on the way in. Here's my brother in law (up to his knees in snow) getting water from the spring.
Here's a friend, Carl with his and his wife's Polaris sleds. It was real cold New Years morning -28 ° and the sleds needed to be warmed up quite a bit (so much so that mine was at the bar we celebrated New Year's in due to frozen fuel lines- Thanks to Flat Rock Inn in Loweville NY for their garage!!!) before we could go anywhere. The white sled in the background a 1998 Polaris 700...never made it home in one piece. Rider was sore but healthy.
This is all of us at Whetstone Gulf, located outside of Lowville N.Y. It is the "Grand Canyon" of the east. It is quite beautiful in the winter. It can be quite dangerous if you do not pay attention to all the signs warning about the severity of the drop.
This is E.J. and myself standing on the side of the gulf. He was not scared one bit. He did however, hold my hand quite tightly (or was that me holding his hand tightly??). It really is quite beautiful.
