Laurel Caverns, Pennsylvania's largest cave, is located just off Route 40 East of Uniontown. With 2.3 miles of passages, it is the 16th longest developed cave in the United States. The rock in this "maze cave" is Loyalhanna Limestone. Unique features include its catacombs and natural intricate sculpturing.
Originally called Laurel Hill Cave, it has been explored since the late 1700's. Development began in May of 1962 and the first guided tour was taken on July 1, 1964.
The cave temperature is 52 degrees year round, so a sweater or jacket should be worn. Non slippery shoes are important. Never wear high heels to a cave.
Laurel Caverns is open seven days a week from May 1 through October 31 and Saturdays and Sunday only during March, April, and November. Hours are from 9:00AM to 5:00PM. Call (724) 438-3003 for rates.
