Descent of Talus
And don't forget that once you have made it to your destination, you must still navigate the steep descent back down the mountain. In summer, this means you must face the 650 foot rocky slopes coming down from the south rim to Shastina saddle. Be sure to save some strength and take your time along these stretches since more falls happen when descending than when climbing. The time to descend on this trip was 2.5 hours to our camp in Hidden Valley over 3000 feet below the lofty rim of Shastina's crater. Enjoy the views and Climb On!
