Yosemite National Park, CA August 1975, Lower River Campground
We spent a week here in August of 1975. We had a Japanese foreign exhange student live with us my senior year in high school and we took him up to Yosemite. This was his first experience camping and he thoroughly enjoyed himself. As far as the campground goes, it was a typical Yosemite campground: crowded. This particular campground doesn't exist anymore thanks to a flood in early 1997. |

Yosemite National Park, CA
June 1995, Upper River Campground
Unfortunately we didn't get a picture on this trip due to a faulty camera. This campground was also extremely crowded with campsites very close to each other. There were a couple of good, secluded sites available, but at that time, you had to take what they gave you. The following year the reservation system allowed you to pick your campsite, but then the same 1997 flood wiped this one away too.

With the family getting bigger, we got a new tent for this camping trip. This was the first time I had ever camped in the Pines campgrounds. There are three different Pines campgrounds with this one being the largest by far. We were fortunate enough to get a campsite in the outside of the first loop. These are the only sites in this campground that don't have anyone behind you. The sites are still relatively close together, but the spaces on this part of the loop are deep so you can take your tent back and get away from some of the neighbors for a little more privacy. This was site #7, but in the future, I'd opt for a site about 3 or four down from this one. This site was a little too close to the main entrance road to the campground and at night the site got lit up by the shittle bus lights every 20 minutes as it made its turnaround at the dumping station.
