Corroboree Walls

The Word: Soaring aretes.
Sun/shade: Shade all day.
Wet weather options: None.
Style of Climbs: 50-70m bolted faces and aretes, plus several corner cracks. Bring brackets and a rack.
Grades: 15-27
Best Route(s): The aretes.

The Details: A rare commodity in the Blueys - a cliff with afternoon shade! The main attractions here are the beautiful buttresses, and mainly the aretes, which start at 21.

Access: Attila area is best accessed by a 10min walk, down the switchbacks as for Zigzag, down an extra zig, and then head round L. The other sections have very short walks to the top of your buttress of choice followed by a 2 pitch rap descent.

A view of Corroboree Walls from Piddington, showing the Attila Buttress on the left. In the middle is the Teenage Buttress, home to an inordinate number of classics including I Was a Teenager for the CIA (*** 24) (the beautiful arete on the left side of the buttress) and Teenage Nervous Breakdown (** 26+). Outer Space Buttress is on the right, home to It Came From Outer Space (*** 25) among others. Each buttress is about 70m high!
Face & arete heaven ... so let's not mention the vegetated cracks!

Described L to R, facing the cliff.

Attila 50m 15 (OS)
Do it as a single pitch, or at most two. 1) (25m 14) Up through loose blocks for a fair way up to flake - take big cams if you want to protect it. Up to DBB on L. 2) (25m 15) Extend the DBB, then up shattered flakes, and step R to good #1 camalot under open book corner. Step L onto face, then up to ramp, and easily all the way L across the wall to belay off trees. Nothing to write home about, but not a bad way to pass the time.
