Will's Rock Climbing Page > Crags

Crag Descriptions

I've used a 3 star quality rating system to help you pick from the lists below (based on crag quality, not necessarily the quality of my own info!). (B) indicates that an area primarily offers bouldering. Each page gives crag descriptions including access details, grades of routes, sun/shade options and required gear, plus route descriptions and photos. Mainly Australian crags but I'm gradually adding info on crags worldwide as I get a chance to visit them. I hope this info comes in handy. I'm open for tips (giving or receiving) on climbing spots, just give me an email.

Abbreviations Used on This Site

Hangerless bolts (aka "carrot bolts") are common in Australia. The main problem in describing bolts usually arises in differentiating a hangerless bolt, a fixed hanger, and a ringbolt. "BR" has gained some acceptance for hangerless bolts BUT the way I see it, 'runner' is any type of pro, therefore 'bolt runner' (BR) describes any type of bolt, and therefore I consider it imprecise to use this term with reference to hangerless bolts only. Feel free to disagree but here's the terms I try and stick to on this site:

BB: a carrot (hangerless bolt) (often used in Australia as belay bolts, hence BB).
DBB: double belay bolts (2 carrots for belay)
TBB: triple belay bolts
FH, DFH, TFH: fixed hanger, double fixed hanger, triple fixed hanger
RB, DRB, TRB: ringbolt, double ring bolts, triple ring bolts
PR: piton
P: pitch
L : left or led (use your brain)
R : right
N, S, E, W : North, South, East, West
Solo: to climb the route without a rope (not recommended!)
Rap : Rappel, or abseil.
FA: first ascent
FFA: first free ascent (FA is preferred, except when previous ascent(s) were not free)
FCA: first complete ascent (for multipitch routes which have been partially climbed previously), or first clean ascent (for previously aided routes)
FFTRA: first free toprope ascent
FRA: first recorded ascent, used when someone might have done it before the first known ascentionist.
HB: hanging belay
SHB: semi hanging belay
OS: I onsighted the route (ie redpointed the route on the first attempt)
RP: I redpointed the route (to lead the route without weighting the rope, but having been on the route before (either a prior attempt at leading or possibly as a clean second))
L: I have led the route (ie done all the moves on lead but I had to weight the rope)
YP: I have yellowpointed the route (either toprope or second without weighting the rope)
TR: I seconded or toproped the route, but I had to weight the rope.
