My Family History
Family History has been a hobby of mine since my mother started reseaching our family tree shortly after my grandparents died in 1992. We have mainly been reseaching my mothers side of the family, but recently have had some success in gathering information about my fathers family.
Decendents of John Black and Jane Henderson
16 March 1997I enjoy delving into history through genealogy and love to solve the puzzle of the past. Why did my Great-Great-Great Grandparents, the Moran's leave Liverpool ? How did they get to Australia ? Where did they live ? Some of these questions have been difficult to answer and others you can only guess at the answer, but there is a sense of accomplishment when you add another person or bit of information to the picture!
On mum's side of the family we have traced our relations to Scotland, where her father was born. The main surnames in this part of the family are TODD, BLACK, ROBERTSON, HENDERSON, LUNDIE, REE(I)KIE, JOSS and SIMPSON. We have also traced family to England, Ireland and Germany on my grandmother's side. I have been concentrating on this part of the family (my great Grandmothers family), with the main surnames of MORAN, SHARKEY, DERBEN, and MURPHY. For more detailed information on this family, Click Here.
On my father's side of the family, we have been blessed by the help of an amateur researcher, funnily enough having the same name as my father! He has helped us trace dad's direct anscestors and sent us copies of certificates. All of my father's family is from The Netherlands, with the main surnames being PRINS, HOFLAND(T), van OORTMERSSO(E)N, and ADMIRAAL.
For a full picture of my ancestors, take a look at my Pedigree Charts. These charts cover my ancestors on both my mothers' family and my fathers' family. I'm pretty proud of how much we've been able to accomplish over the last 6 years! The templates of the pedigree chart is from Elaine Johnson, so visit her site!
Last year we held a family reunion of the decendents of John Black and Jane Henderson. Most of the family emmigrated to Australia, but two of the children (that we know of) went to England and the United States of America. At the reunion, nearly all of the family was represented, with visitors from interstate and one from overseas!
My mother is currently working on a more detailed family history page, so visit her page at Heartland Valley.
