Will take about 4hours 30 minutes at a steady walking pace.
Allensford Area
This area lies in the North West of County Durham. Centuries ago it too was an industrial region and the valley is littered with crumbling relics of mills and mines, although you may not see these because time has blended them seamlessly into the landscape.In the 17th century this was an important sword-making area. Until the 1980's the valley was overlooked by the vast steelworks and slag heaps of Consett. The work has gone now as have most traces of the steel works. However 'Stinky Burn' is still there to remind us of our illustrious heritage. Walking through these valleys, woods and country lanes remains one of my favourite pastimes. Visit the
