PUBS
The SHIP INN, Middlestone, lies on the
RED ROUTE. You can get drink and food providing that you arrive at an appropriate hour.
If you are prepared to deviate from the route by a few hundred metres:
To the NE of the RED ROUTE lies the ancient village of Kirk Merrington,
which at the last count had a selection of 4 public houses.
To the SE of the RED ROUTE is the Sportsmans Arms at Canney Hill,
welcoming families and serving good pub food.
If its good beer you're after then The Frog and Ferret, 6 miles away next to 'Thorns' roundabout at Spennymoor,
takes some beating. It is a small traditional pub, children are not encouraged.
In the other direction, toward Crook, in the village of North Bitchburn, The Red Lion serves excellent real ale
and food, families are welcome. (ps. I don't know if bitches have also been burned to the east, south and west)
