In preparation for my transition to ripe old age, I promised myself a birthday present. I would purchase a small sailboat and take my 50th year off from all employment. I would use this sabbatical year to sail wherever the spirit, wind, currents, my car, my trailer, and Murphy would dictate. I wanted to sail in the Mid-West's many lakes as well as the northern Great Lakes, The Chesapeake Bay, and the Florida Keys. I had even considered crossing the Gulf Stream and sailing into the Bahamas.

My dream was a boat large enough to be comfortable and sail anywhere in the World - but reality suggested starting with a boat that was small enough to trailer to anywhere in the United States. Having set my goals, I started out on a one year adventure of reading and research that culminated in the purchase of "Solar Wind", my 1990 Com-Pac 19.

The Trailer Sailor section is my story - from the start of the search for the "perfect boat" in 1997 to my Florida voyages in a Com-Pac 19 during 1998.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed in the things that you didn't do than in the ones you did do.
So throw off the bow lines.
Sail away from the safe harbor.
Catch the trade winds in your sails.
Explore. Dream. Discover.
-Mark Twain
