Headingley Indoor Northern Area Finals
Excert from Lincolnshire Sports Echo, Saturday March 13th: At the Crease by Tony Askew
To conclude, mates Dave Ranshaw and Dave Savage last Sunday attended Headingley and the impressive Indoor School (eight lane nets) to watch/score in the Six-a-Side National Finals.
Apparently the nets are split into two pitches (four lane size) with "spring netting" to allow two matches to take place at once.
Bracebridge Heath were the Lincolnshire winners with Staff, Notts,Derbys, Yorks, and Cumbria making up the eight.
According to "Ranny" Bracebridge Heath succeeded in "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!" Durham University 108 for five (12 overs): Stead (26),McArter (27), Matt Bradley three for 18, Paul Fletcher two for 29 and, in reply, the Heath were all out in just 11 overs.
Now at one stage Bracebridge were 87 for two with four overs to go (22 needed off four overs) but "run outs" and the loss of top scorer Ali Plant (25) saw the Lincoln lads fall short of their target. Steve Warman scored 20 also.
How long though do Clayton's/Bracebridge Heath go back in six-a-side success? A long time, Vienna in Europe and all - a credit to this winter game. Congratulations lads.
