Bud and Vicki Hogan's 1996 Appalachian Trail Journey
June 17
Spring Mountain Shelter to Jerry Cabin Shelter........................................16 miles
Only one long uphill today, and the rest was fairly do-able. I had a hard time trying to find the water supply today, I guess that I just missed it. Didn't refill our water supply until we arrived at Jerry Cabin Shelter. This was the only shelter with an electric light and a phone (neither work, because there is no electricity out here!!!!)
It was a little cool so I started a fire in the fireplace. Finding the water was a little confusing, which trail to take, but I just had to look to find the sign. Great water supply, and pretty close, too. We had the cabin to ourselves. Where were Rich and Mike? And Ray, we hadn't seen Ray since Hot Springs. Where was he? Vicki read in the shelter log that Noel and Ray were a day ahead of us. They had only spent one night in Hot Springs, and so they were a day ahead of us on the trail. Maybe we would catch up to them later.
