OUR ADIRONDACK DEER CAMP

Our camp consisted of a 14x14 wall tent with a small wood stove for heat.Every fall we would drive back 18 miles into the Moose River Recreation Area, then hike in another three miles to Wolf Creek, where we would cut firewood and set up our tent. The three main hunters from our camp, myself, Doug Benedict of Syracuse, and Stan Vicki(my Brother-inlaw) consistantly took mature bucks from this area. Unfortunately, all three of us also worked together at an auto factory in Syracuse. When General Motors decided to close our plant down, we were forced to move to other plants. Stan and I moved to Michigan while Doug moved to Buffalo,NY. We have not been back to hunt the "Big Woods" in four years now.

Doug, Stan and myself in front of our camp after a heavy snowfall broke the ridgepole.

Doug and Stan with a couple Moose River Bucks.

Stan tracked this beauty for several miles before catching up to him and a hot doe. One shot at 100 yds. put down the 200 pound nine pointer for good. After boiling his jawbone,we were able to determine that this buck was at least 8 1/2 years old ! He was definately going downhill when Stan shot him.

This is a bear I shot just a short distance from the tent.

I set up this spike camp approximately 4 miles beyond our main camp, in the West Canada Lakes area.

I took this 200 lb. 8 point just a couple hundred yards from my spike camp!

Our best hunting always came after a fresh tracking snow. Here we got two bucks on the same morning. (note the third buck hanging in the background!)
