Mountain Biking in South Florida

Your first thought might be, "Hey, there are no mountains in Florida!" And you would be right, there isn't. But, in a place where you can order snow machines for a party, anything is possible.

Our local state and county park systems have been kind enough to design and construct three of the nicest mountain bike trails in Florida just minutes from downtown Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. These three parks, Markham Park (Ft. Lauderdale), Quiet Waters Park (Deerfield Beach), and Oleta River State Park (Miami) offer beautiful scenery, plenty of hills, and challenges for novices and experts. Markham Park is also the site of NORBA races. In addition to mountain bike trails, Markham and Quiet Waters also offer camping facilities so you can make a weekend of it.

Flying

Body Armor As the saying goes, "if you build it, they will come", the popularity and the enthusiasm for the sport of mountain biking increases daily here. To support the demand for state-of-the-art bikes, several shops have opened here featuring brands like Trek, Specialized, and GT bicycles. They also carry   a complete line of clothing and accessories.

Because these trails are located within parks, all safety rules must be adhered to. That means helmets are required and must be worn while on the trails. The rest of the body armor is optional. Do bring plenty of water or sports drinks so that you won't dehydrate.
