I've redone this page and eliminated the graphics. I've found that I've bookmarked more pages than can easily be placed here with graphics. Therefore, I've added my bookmarks file here. This page will be updated periodically as my bookmark list increases. I've added verbiage where I think it will be beneficial for you to better understand the site. If you find any dead links, please let me know and I'll get them removed. The sites listed here are either sites I've found while searching the web or have been recommended in the genealogy newsgroups to which I subscribe.

If you're interested in genealogy, whether just beginning or not, I'd recommend subscribing to newsgroups set up for discussion of genealogy. There are many available. You can either use your email program (ie: Outlook Express) to subscribe to them, or you can sign up at one of several sites on the internet to receive them. I've found the most helpful groups to be alt.genealogy, soc.genealogy, and soc.genealogy.computing. An example of a internet newsgroup site is Deja.com.

Microfilm for Your Computer -- This
firm is marketing a product that attaches to your computer via the mouse
port and which will display microfiche and/or microfilm on your computer
monitor. From here, it can be printed on your printer and/or saved
in a variety of file formats. The pricetag may be cost-prohibitive
for some, but might be of interest for libraries, genealogical societies,
and historical societies. I have received additional information on
their product, but have not yet received permission to post it. If
interested, you can email the company and they will email you the
information.

Cemetery and Death Info Sites
Date Calculators -- I should note here that there is some debate on the preciseness of date calculators. The accuracy, obviously, depends on the information supplied to the calculator. It will also depend on under which calendar system a date is provided. It is recommended that anytime a calculated date is used, it should be clearly noted that (1) the date was calculated, (2) how it was calculated, and (3) under which calendar scheme it was calculated.

Miscellaneous -- This is truly "a little of this and a little of that." Many sites have such diverse types of information, it's difficult to categorize them. I'll try to do better. Maybe I can even get IE to keep my links alphabetized when I export them. Microsoft seems to have an issue with changing the order of things <g>. It lets you change the view, but retains the original order when exported. Go figure!
