Superstitions: The Good Goalkeepers are almost always the most superstitious people on their team. Believe, I've tried, tested, and invented tons of them. Here are some of the things I do to bring myself good luck. I call these the good: Black Socks This is my major good-luck spiel. Every game I wear black socks. When the pressure's on, sometimes I'll go "Come on, black socks!" And hey, sometimes it works! Red and Black Red and Black are my lucky colours (black socks!!), so I wear as much as possible! My hockey pants are red, my legguards and kickers are black, and I have a red + black jersey. This kind of stuff will work with whatever colours are lucky for you. The Canada U18 Women's Soccer Thang Anyone who watched the 2002 U18 women's soccer world cup might remember this. Every game, the team members would find an inspirational word, write it on a bandage, and tie the bandage around their wrist. Hey, they came second place! I tried this in my school season, and it seemed to do quite well. Except, I didn't have bandage, so i wrote directly on my wrist. I hope that's not bad for you... Smacking The Glove Basically hitting your left glove with your stick before the game is just about to start to get you pumped. Nothing big. Tapping the Posts Tapping the left, right, and top goal-posts before each game, as well as the back of the box. This is supposed to make them repel the ball. Smacking the Top Bar While taking your place before the game starts, run up the goal and smack your stick into the top bar. I don't do this, because the core of my stick is already broken, and I don't want it to get worse! Tapping the Surfaces Tapping your blocking surfaces before the game: feet, shins, chest, glove, helmet. The div 1 goalie in my club does this. |
