Under the Roman control of Judea the resident Jewish population was virtualy destroyed and Judea was renamed Palaestina in the attempt to destroy everything that might show any connection between the Jewish people and the Land of Israel.
The word Palaestina is derived from Philistin. The Philistines where one of the ancient Sea People of Greek origin who settled in the southern coastal plain ok Kanaan in the 12 century BCE.
In 636 the Arabs conquered Palaestina. That was almost three millenia after the Jewish people with sertainty started living in the region.
From the begining in 12 century BCE until the day today, there has always been Jewish presence in the Land of Isreal.
There has never been any Palestinian language or a a distinctive "Palestinian" culture nor there ever has been a country called "Palestine", governed by people calling themselves "Palestinians", nor there has ever been any independent Arab state in the Land of Israel.
When between 1948 and 1967 Gaza and the West Bank were governed by respectively by Egypt and Jordan, the Palestinians never demanded independence, nor was there will to let the Palestinians control Gaza and the West Bank.

BEFORE the West Bank and Gaza were captured by Israel in the 1967 war.
Since the areas where under Arab control, which the Palestinians did not oppose, who did they need to liberate Palestine from?
For them Palestine is not just the West Bank and Gaza, its whole Israel. The "Palestinian" negotional code is "All or Nothing".
The Palestinian anti-Israeli doctrine is deeply islamistic, the war (cowardly suicide bombs against i.e. school busses) is a holy war against the heden infidels. Palestine is an example of an attempt of Arab Imperialism!
