One of the coolest new
features in GS is the ability to breed new Pokémon at
the daycare center outside Goldenrod. There are many ways of
doing this.
- A) USE A
NATURAL SETUP- put a male and a female of the same
type of Pokémon into the daycare
center.
- B) SCREW AROUND
WITH GENETICS- put two different types of
Pokémon into the center and see if they
mate.
- C) MONKEY SEE,
MONKEY DO (AS IN MIMIC)- Put any Pokémon in
with a Ditto and see what happens!
Of course, you're
probably wondering "how do I know if the Pokémon are
going to make an egg?" There is a way of telling. Go look at
your Pokémon once you've given them to the center.
These phrases will help you know if you're getting an egg or
not.
EGG
|
NO
EGG
|
- It appears to
care
- It shows
interest
- It's
friendly
|
- It's brimming
with energy
- It has no
interest
|
*NOTE- Most Pokémon will show interest in
Ditto.
Now that you have an egg, you have to hatch it. Eggs hatch
after a certain number of steps (moving around) are taken.
My advice is to get on your bicycle and ride around a flat
and boring place with few wild monsters, like National Park.
When your egg hatches, you'll get one of three things:
- A) An exact
replica of the Pokémon you
breeded
- B) An exact
replica of the female Pokémon you breeded (if you
cross-bred)
- C) An
unevolved version of the Pokémon you
breeded
In most cases, you'll get
choices B and C. Ditto will create eggs of anybody, so that
doesn't really count.
WHAT'S GONNA COME OUT?!
If you bred two fully-evoled Pokémon, say, two
Charizards, you would be given an egg that would hatch into
a Charmander. That's predictable. Of course, some
Pokémon give very strange eggs. Say that you mate a
Jynx with a Ditto. Is a Jynx going to hatch from the egg?
NO! It turns out that Jynx has a lower-evolved form named
Smoochum. Also, Smoochum learns different attacks than Jynx,
so you might want to study my attack charts well. Genderless
Pokémon can only reproduce with a Ditto. You must
have two Dittos to get a Ditto egg.
GOIN' STERILE
Now, some Pokémon simply can;t reproduce. Either they
weren't born with reproductive systems, or they just aren't
very studley. Twenty-one of the 251 Pokémon cannot
produce eggs. The list below tells you which ones:

EGG ATTACKS
Breeded Pokémon can learn attacks they usually
couldn't by being bred from the right partners. Use the Egg
Attack charts for more information.
