C O LO R MORPH

Their striking and beautiful color combination of red- blue- yellow and black confirm the aptness of their popular name, Butterfly Cichlid. Perhaps their showings of rainbow-like colors, caused by differential refraction of light waves also earn themselves an auspicious name i.e. "Rainbow Phoenix" from the Chinese.

An aquarium fish literature once noted that many years back, Asiatic hatcheries produced many colourful varieties of rams, but unfortunately brood care in those specimens has been severely disrupted or is lost altogether.

Rams seem to show all the hues and shade their distant relative the discus possesses.
What other coloration could they possibly manifest? Is red, brown, green or even black ram possible?

Maybe rams' coloration resemble rainbow. You'll never know what colors you are going to get out of their offspring.

Best seen in direct sunlight.

Are we looking at a 24k gold ram here?
