When good drama gets violent
What do swordplay, fist fights, stunts, cool t-shirts, gummi worms,
theater, and college students have in
common?

...but it's all fun and games until somebody gets an eye poked out.
That is where our professional level of theatrical combat and safety
training comes in. As a satellite of the Ring of Steel, our primary
focus is on training members. This compliments the structure of our
parent group in Ann Arbor
as it maintains an aggressive performance schedule. We subscribe to the
standards of the Ring of Steel and of the Society of American Fight
Directors.
Our satellite is unique in that we only accept 20-25 members at a
time. This relatively-small size allows performers to become
familiar with each other's fighting styles and helps the group
preserve standardization in techniques and choreography. The
satellite is run primarily by college students who divide the work
among individuals and task-groups.
The Ring of Steel - Kalamazoo is a registered student organization
at Western Michigan University.
As a group with an educational focus, we exist as much for the
benefit of our members as we do for our audiences and the art of
theatrical combat. The skills we teach can be invaluable to members
with developing acting careers. Our members develop themselves
through physical and mental exercise, artistic challenges, and
social interaction.
We are proud and happy to be in our line of work.
