The
greatest things in life are not FREEbies. Well, in our
humble opinion at least. For what's the point of having
freebies if you do not even know where
to hunt for them in the very first place?
Instead, what matters more is a guide
- the one that not only answers the question of where
but also how, what, why and perhaps when.
A guide can be anything from a user manual to a library
archive. In our case, we attempt to map up a relevant
territory (a guide that is) for you in areas of WWW
sites, books, music, movies, software/hardware, and
hangouts.
What follows is therefore our compilation of only the
best items from their respective categories. Or maybe
we should call it zeJune's Pick or zeJune's Recommended.
Whichever way, you get to see and know the fine stuffs
that we prefer.
We show you the red-carpeted route, you just need to
walk.
Sometimes, you might find us posting some REALLY bad
stuffs, which means that
we are trying to alert you to steer clear off the stinky
territory.
Websites
Portal
http://www.yahoo.com/
This site is the undisputed king
of Internet with real substance. Fast, simple, rich and
powerful, it should qualify as the default starting page
for all browsers.
Web-based
Email
http://mail.yahoo.com/
Inheriting the qualities of Yahoo.com,
Yahoo! Mail is once again fast, simple, rich and powerful.
Even better than Hotmail. Need we say more?
Search
Engine
http://www.google.com/
A lightning fast search engine with
uncannily accurate response. So good that Yahoo! is licensing
Google's technology.
Internet
Guide
http://www.about.com/
The Internet will be a gigantic
junkyard if it's not for About.com. Type in 'classical
music', and you get ONE neatly organized, annotated page
with all the relevant Internet resources. Cool.
E-Cards
http://www.bluemountain.com/
Selection of cards is humongous. Subselection is even
more impressive. So many cards. So little time. Truly
the honcho of electronic greeting cards.
Online
Community Organizer
http://www.ecircle.com/
I won't say this one is great but
I can't find a better alternative. But it sure served
its purpose rock solid. I'm happy but not impressed.
Online
Retailer
http://www.amazon.com/
Lead by TIME Magazine 1999 Person
of the Year, Amazon.com consistently defies NASDAQ persecution
and continues to serve its millions of hungry customers
everyday. Neat, wide selection and competitive prices.
I don't shop online. But I love the candor product reviews
there. Helps me do my shopping research.
Online
Auctioneer
http://www.ebay.com/
Authentic. (according to most members)
Fantastic place for grabbing items with jaw-dropping prices.
That's all I can tell you for I've never participate in
either bidding or selling an item. Why? Because I live
in Malaysia. Shipping cost alone will make my wallet sob.
Product
Reviews
http://www.epinions.com/
If Amazon.com couldn't satisfy
me with its product reviews, I resort to Epinions. Choose
from a multitude of consumer products and you get members-submitted
reviews for the item you've selected.
HTML
Resource
http://www.htmlclinic.com/
Need
help with a tag? HTML error? Summon your browser to this
site for some quick and satisfyingly intelligible answers.

http://www.designbymarks.com
Everything you need to get yourself started in creating
eye pleasing graphics + webpages. You won't be disappointed.
Warez
and Crackz
http://astalavista.box.sk/
You know what. But we are imploring
you to desert all sites of this nature. Give the software
developers the credit they deserve. Buy their software.

Know-how
http://www.ehow.com/
A superb starting point on how-to-do-tis or
how-to-do-tat materials. In fact, so useful that I actually learnt
how to open a bank current account in 5 short minutes minus the sulky
face of a f**ked-up banker.
FreeStuffs Resources
http://www.thefreesite.com/
A modest but comprehensive guide to everything
free on the Internet. Above par reviews. Very much worth your mouseclick
even if you'r not a freebies maniac.
MP3s
http://www.audiogalaxy.com/
We know Napster's the craze at the moment. But just in case you can't
find what you want there, you may want to try out Audiogalaxy's very
own MP3 search engine. Search results are usually of high quality.
We recommend this one.
Sports
http://www.cnnsi.com/
My favourite source for sports news and other infos.
Tech News and Resources
http://www.zdnet.com/
I don't frequent tech sites often but when I
need that extra dose of tech potion, this is where I go. From shareware
downloads to IT industry news, getting 'up-to-date' with ZDnet has
never been easier.
Books/Magazines
On Writing by Stephen King
The world best selling horror novelist speaks about the craft which
earned him millions in this RM 70 book. Frank, open and sometimes
irreverent, Mr. King showed us how a competitive writer is formed
and not made. Very useful for aspiring raconteurs and fledgling writers
alike. Brilliant stuffs.
The Memory Book by Harry Lorayne & Jerry Lucas
Most of us do not possess outstanding ability
in memory. But neither do both the authors who wrote this bestselling
self-help book. But they devised a memory system which can REALLY
help us enhance and complement our existing natural memory. The methods
are fun and they work miraculously for us. Once applied, the rest
becomes history. Highly recommended.
GOD: The Evidence
by Patrick Glynn
In this controversial book, Glynn tries to convince us that it has
become NOT scientifc to not believe in GOD!!! Divided to 5 chapters,
Glynn laid out the facts as he explained that the existence of GOD
is not grounded in mere ignorance but that it is where logical human
inquisition has been leading us all along. Now, I really don't know
what to believe.
Michael Martin, the coolest proponent of Atheism since Bertrand Russell,
responds fearlessly to Glynn's book by concluding that it presents
no persuasive evidence whatsoever for God and the soul in a counter
essay
written and published on the Internet. The argument, I'm afraid, will
never cease.
In the mean time, I shall remain a happy agnostic.
Movies/Music
Nothing
special at the moment though I'd love to say that the latest Enya's
offering is 'beh-pai'*.
* 'beh-pai' is Hokkien for 'not bad'.
Technology
Soon.
Miscellaneous
Makan-makan - There has been a recent rapid-fire proliferation
of dining spots at a place called Serdang
Perdana near MINES WONDERLAND. From mamak stalls to steakhouses
to hawker centres to chinese
restaurants to karoke hangouts,
Serdang Perdana is really one heck of a food haven no gourmet can
afford to miss. Walk into Serdang Perdana and you'll leave with a
bloated tummy. Guaranteed.
Bad Apples
The Blair Witch Project (movie)
We know we are not movie mavens or amateur film
critiques. But our horse sense tells us this Project sucks like a
vacuum cleaner. (We kinda dozed off after about 30mins) GOD help me
for I cannot understand why this movie eventually became a runaway
blockbuster. SERIOUSLY. |
