British television series Produced by Paul Armstrong for Central TV Written by Dick Clement and Ian LaFrenais Auf Wiedersehen, Pet began in 1983 with a thirteen episode series where three bricklayers from Newcastle upon Tyne in England set off for Germany in a desperate attempt to find work, and to have some fun along the way. They head for Germany in a much the worse for wear Ford Zephyr Mark IV, which eventually dies on the motorway. They eventually get a job in the German district of Dusselldorf, where they meet, and share a hut with, other building workers from across the U.K. The series chronicles their antics and lives during their six month stay abroad. The series starred Jimmy Nail, as 'Oz', who recently starred as Augustin Magaldi alongside Madonna in Evita. It also starred other famous British names such as Tim Healy (as Dennis) Kevin Whately (as Neville) Pat Roach (as Bomber). Timothy Spall (as Barry), Christopher Fairbank (as Moxey). The late Gary Holton (as Wayne) also starred in the first series, which earned itself a BAFTA nomination. |
