Kensuke is the third of the three stooges; he's Touji's "nerd" counterpart, and is really into war and fighting - he often goes out alone and camps, playing army and such ^^ He finds a kindred soul in Shinji, as they both have lost their mothers, and his greatest desire is to pilot an Eva. He acts as somewhat of a conscience at times for Touji, when the boy gets a little carried away, although Kensuke himself is often the one getting the pair into trouble (like when he insisted they go out and watch the battle between Eva-01 and Shamshel). Not much depth is offered into his character through the series, but what we do see is very funny.

Hikari is one of the lesser noticed characters of Evangelion. She doesn't take much of a role at all until Asuka arrives and befriends her, after which we get a deeper insight into the seemingly agressive class representative. She likes Touji (for his 'soft side' apparently!), and is very supportive of Asuka, even when she begins to head toward mental breakdown. Her family are also the ones that end up adopting Penpen, after Misato decides it's too dangerous for it to be living with her, Shinji and Asuka.

Shinji's father and Commander of NERV, Gendou is seemingly a very cold man. Originally known as Gendou Rokubungi, he married the young scientist Yui Ikari and became a worker, and eventually leader, of her project with Gehirn (later NERV). After the death of Yui in a test accident (for which he was blamed), he abandoned his son Shinji, and only calls him back ten years later because, in his words, "I have a use for you". The only person he shows any real affection for is Rei, even to the extent of burning his hands to retrieve her from an Eva test accident (the obvious reason he cares so much for her is her link to Yui). He also has a secret affair with both Naoko and then her daughter Ritsuko - whom he later kills. But just before third impact it's finally clear why he was so unfeeling - after Yui's death, he felt he was unworthy of being loved by anyone, and this is why he pushes others (especially Shinji) away.

Ritsuko is the daughter of Naoki Akagi, the brilliant scientist that created the Magi system. She met up with Misato in college, before joining NERV and taking up her mother's old job after her death. She takes care of the many Eva Tests performed, and oversees Maya who also works with the computers... however, she also has her secrets (hey, doesn't everyone in this series?)... she is having a hidden affair with Gendou, but when she realises he doesn't care for her, she becomes jealous of Rei and destroys the dummy plug system, for which she's imprisoned. They later release her tho, to help combat the military attack on NERV. As third impact begins she attempts to kill Gendou and take the entire NERV building down with her, but the MAGI system betrays her, and she is instead killed by Gendou himself.

Originally a professor at the University of Kyoto, he met up with both Yui and Gendou there; Yui as a student, and Gendou as a trouble-maker ^^ His suspicions of Gendou's activities led to his finding-out about NERV, and he was then invited to join the organisation. He has remained there since, as advisor-of-sorts to Commander Ikari.

Kaji is Misato's ex-boyfriend from her college years. He returns to Japan with Asuka as her guardian, and sparks soon fly between the two old lovers. Kaji meanwhile works for both NERV and the Japanese Government, and is investigating NERV's activities for SEELE. His curiosity at NERV's secrets however, eventually lead to his own death at the hands of NERV intelligence - however he leaves the information he found to Misato, who secretly continues his work.

Not much is actually known about Yui. She was a talented scientist who trained under Fuyutsuki, and was chosen to be part of a special project funded by Gehirn. She married a young man Gendou, who joined her organisation, and the two had a son Shinji. Her life was cut tragically short, however, in an "accident" (which was actually caused by a jealous Naoko Akagi) during Eva-01's first activation test, and her essence was absorbed into the Eva, where it still remains as the core. Her death was blamed on Gendou Ikari's negligence.

Naoko is Ritsuko's mother, and is the brains behind the MAGI system. She worked for the organisation Gehirn, which was disbanded shortly after her suicide - she was the only member of Gehirn that was not transferred to the newly formed NERV. She was also the one who set up Unit-01's activation to absorb Yui, to be rid of her because she wanted Gendou for herself (she later had an affair with him, before her death). There is speculation that her soul was used as the core of Unit-00.

Penpen is perhaps the cutest character in the series... as Misato's pet, he somehow learns to put up with her bizarre habits around the house. He lives in her freezer, and often eats the same food as his human owners (which at times is rather un-palatable). Eventually Misato sends him to live with Hikari's family, as she thinks it is too dangerous for him to live with her. He isn't seen much in the anime, but in the manga we are offered extra insight into this kawaii bird; he is actually the result of an experiment gone wrong, and was adopted by Misato just before he was to be killed... poor Penpen!
