Volta a Ilha

What you see in this picture is the center of Vila Franca do Campo. In the evenings this centre is full of people either walking around, eating ice cream, talking. In the summer evenings there is usually a group playing music and people dancing. There is feast of Senhor da Pedra held every year in the month of August and there is also Sao Joao which is held every year in June 24 and many people who left many years ago to try to find a better life for themselves return each year  because of the emense "saudades" they have for the island they were born in. There is no english word for "saudades" but the word that can best describe this is longing.
