Mark Harmon played Dr. Jack McNeil on Chicago Hope. Harmon is probably best known for his numerous TV movies, but has also worked steadily on features and television series since the late '70s.

Mark Harmon is the son of actress Elyse Knox and football star Tom Harmon. He grew up in Hollywood and played college football for the UCLA Bruins, winning fame as their star quarterback. In 1978 he ventured into acting, appearing in the feature "Comes a Horseman" and starring on the police drama Sam.

He has done numerous tv movies, while working on a string of TV series. He was a regular on the historical epic Centennial, the adventure show 240-Robert, and the Dallas clone Flamingo Road. From 1983 to 1986 he starred as playboy plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Caldwell on St. Elsewhere, and in 1987 had a recurring role on Moonlighting as Maddie's love interest, Sam.

His films include "Let's Get Harry," "Summer School," "The Presidio," "Stealing Home," "Cold Heaven," "Wyatt Earp" and "Magic in the Water." His more recent TV work includes a starring role on the police drama Reasonable Doubts and the 1995 detective series Charlie Grace.

Harmon is married to actress Pam Dawber (Mork and Mindy).
