Marco Beltrami: THE MINUS MAN

Moving slightly away from the terror gender, where he has found the recognition and a certain popularity, Marco Beltrami cannot deny the patent influences neither the shade of Christopher Young on his score for The Minus Man, the debut as director of Hampton Fancher, occasional screenwriter -Blade Runner (1982), and little more- and old secondary actor. In spite of the fact that the film is centered in the figure of a serial killer, as much Fancher as Beltrami seem more interested in the design of a nervous and feeble atmosphere than in the effect blows or the more or less shocking moments; this time we don't find the surprisingly captivating melodies that Beltrami created for Scream (1996) or Mimic (1997), though there is the juvenile tone of his music (after all, he is a young composer). Three themes by Bryony Atkinson and Inara George completes the disk. A.L.
