Question: Do you like being a centaur?
Answer:
Most of the time I don't think about it.
For example, when I'm in front of a keyboard wearing a modified head set I don't really emphasize the centaur characteristics enough to make me aware of the differences. After doing that for over a year and a half I've gotten used to it.
When I do think about it, my feelings are mixed.
Most of the time it doesn't bother me or make me particularly upbeat. I'm alive. I earn a decent living. I have friends and family who accept me as I am. I have my hobbies and special interests. No real downers yet nothing world shaking.
On rare occasions I get really depressed when I think about the fact that I was changed into a female and a mythological creature by an entity that looks like a very small horse. That creature's ability is far beyond what the human race can do. She could, if provoked, transform my entire family into a herd of centaurs, or worse, and we couldn't do a thing about it.
I try not to think about that. At the same time we're all very careful not to push things. That's why we haven't tried killing or abandoning the ponies.
There are, however, times when I really like being a centaur mare. Moving at a gallop or fast trot is one of those times. So is being with a herd of horses in the late stages or pregnancy and the early stages of a foal's life. (Centaur mares have a maternal 'instinct' that makes my spine tingle just thinking about it.)
And when you get down to it, I sometimes think that my family prefers me as a centaur mare. My wife and daughters have an excuse to buy fabric and create centaur appropriate fashions with me as their live mannequin. (I had never been a clothes horse until I became a centaur. Now I like dressing up occasionally.) They also like brushing and braiding my hair, mane and tail.
In recent months my son, then youngest of the kids, has taken to making leather outfits with centaur variations. As family, I'm the primary model. He's already sold a few to friends who like the odd features. I think he wants to get in on the ground floor of a new fashion fad.
Anyway, back to the main question.
Do I like being a centaur?
Well, if I had to restrict myself to a yes or no answer I'd have to say "Yes, I like being a centaur." There is something special about being part horse and part human. That something special makes it all worth while.
