Monday, August 27, 1894

Dear sister Hilda & little Neil went down to St. Cloud. How I

will miss them. Don't know if I will stay long since they have

gone.

Monday, September 10, 1894

I went over to Rice Lake to look after the hay over there. The

fire came and I fought it all day alone and without anything to

eat. Saved nine stacks out of ten but it was the hardest day I

ever put in fighting fire a day I shall always remember.

Monday, September 03, 1894

The towns of Poekgoma, Hinckley and Sandstone were

totally destroyed by forest fires over 500 people were burned

to death. It was the worst holocaust that has ever happened

in the history of the county.

Wednesday, September 26, 1894

I went over on the big island and went all over it. Had not

been over it for six years. Took my last boat ride I guess for

some time anyway on Farm Island Lake.

Friday, September 28, 1894

20 years afterward -

I started home once more. Got there the 29. they were all

1914 - and sometimes

glad to see me. Sunday the 30 I went up to see Manda. We

don't yet

went to church and then I stayed until 12 o'clock. She

seemed glad to see me but would not say much. I don't know

what to make of her.
