As Guernsey's capital, the town of St Peter Port plays host to many celebrations
and festivals throughout the year. It is also the site of museums, libraries, and tourist
attractions. Guernsey's restaurants are second to none, many showing off the awards to
prove it. This page shows a few of the items of interest.

The tidal bathing pools at the Villiette are on the opposite side of Havelet Bay
to Castle Cornet. Although titled the "Ladies" and "Men's" pools,
these segregations are largely ignored these days. The kiosk here is famous for it's rolls
and sandwiches. At lunch time it is very busy catering for town workers who walk along
just for a good sandwich. |
Immediately above the bathing pools is Fort George, now a rather expensive
housing area with fantastic views. Shown right is the battery guarding the
South of St Peter Port. |

Every September Guernsey celebrates with the Battle of Britain air display. Many
aircraft put on a show, including the famous Lancaster, Spitfire, and Hurricane flypast.
Other historic planes include Vampires, Nimrods, Harrier jumpjets, Tornadoes, and of
course, the Red Arrows. |
Although certainly not an attraction, I thought I should mention Guernsey's hire
cars. A yellow "H" plate makes them easy to spot. Locals are
divided as to whether "H" stands for hire or "Horror", as our traffic
laws can take visitors by surprise. |

Candie Gardens can be found near the top of St Julian's Avenue, in Candie Road.
On the left of this picture is a statue of Victor Hugo, author of les Miserables, who was
exiled to Guernsey from France. To the right is the old bandstand, now a cafe and part of
Candie Museum. |
