Why am I in GeoCities Rainforest?
GeoCities offered me 2MB of free storage space to build this website. You can get yours too at GeoCities. The Rainforest is the neighborhood where I chose to build my shack because I wanted to have a biodegradable abode which might afford temporary comfort to recyclers of computers, books, bicycles, gadgets and outright junk, and especially to other green thinking folk.

As a technical volunteer involved in refurbishing computers for reuse, I'm interested in helping to build community technology centers, especially those that could use the many pre-Windows PCs available today. DOS is a fine system for learning to type. With DOS and a slow modem you can send email and even surf the internet (without the pictures).

Compared to others in GeoCities RainForest, I'm less directly involved in saving the environment, but this is where I feel I belong. Of the many causes I support, I'm most concerned about preserving the air and water I crave.

The forest is in my blood. I grew up wandering the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts, and the Green Mountains of Vermont. I spent two happy years as a Secretary at the Pennayslvania Field Office of The Nature Conservancy. Walking in the woods is still one of my favorite pastimes.

I signed up with Geocities
on 13 Sept 1997, and have barely moved in. A lot of this stuff I'm moving in will probably just stay in the boxes gathering dust. What's in all those boxes I'm packing? Stuff like computer recycling, community tech centers, libraries, midi music, gospel music, mandolin, skiing, volleyball, skating, volunteer management, paddling, camping, swimming, arboriculture, ornithology, ichthyology, pocono plateau, hydrology, controlled burning, The Nature Conservancy, Habitat for Humanity, Energy Coordinating Agency of Phila, Nonprofit Technology Resources of Phila, Free Library of Phila, mandolin, boogie woogie piano, clowning, juggling, bicycling, bicycle recycling, astronomy, deaf communication, sherlock holmes, bob dylan, bonzo dog band, chuck berry, estelle and jimmy yancey, frank zappa, captain beefheart and his magic band.
