Let Me Put It Another Way
By M.L. Morgan
Way back, when Uncle Mike was a mere yute, we had a printed newsletter called The Nascar Enquirer, for race fans with enquiring minds. It was quite successful. Simple little deal - one page filled with the race report, standings and commentary. Quite efficient. No fluff. Like it's supposed to be.
We had a feature called "Jerk Of The Week" which was also very popular. We eventually retired the piece because it was always something like "Jimmy Spencer takes out 12 cars on lap 3" or "Darrell Waltrip breaks down on parade lap and spews oil all over the track" . That became very boring. Yes, it was easy to edit - we had only to change which lap Spencer caused the wreck, and how many laps D.W. made before he broke down.
We barely blinked our good eye and Al Gore had invented the Internet. What a revelation ! Race Views was born !
We are very sentimental. We long for the old days - before Al Gore's invention became so pervasive. Now, any punk with computer access can write a book report based on Greg Fielden's exhaustive research, and claim it for his own. We don't like that. But there are lots of things we don't like, so we won't dwell on that subject.
We are just now learning about 'politically correct'. Think I might get ill.
We'll reprise the piece with our new and improved attitude.
Lots of heros this season. Three 1st-time winners. Dale Earnhardt Jr, Matt Kenseth and Steve Park. Very refreshing to see the new generation be so successful. We like that.
And Bobby Labonte is on his way to a Championship. Labonte has paid his dues. Very consistent. That's what Nascar rewards. We think the Joe Gibbs team is the best there is and we applaud their efforts.
And we admire Dale Earnhardt's efforts to get that 8th title. He'll never get it but we admire his spunk.
Several zeros this season. Yes, we are politically correct but we are not brain-dead. Brett Bodine. Pathetic. Bill Elliott - very pleasant interview but he forgets 1985 was 15 years ago. Dave Marcis - he's won 7 races - let's take our wing-tip shoes back home. Stacey Compton - spare me please. Jeremy Mayfield. Total fool.
Our friend Rick Wright Racing History does a great job chronicalling the old stuff. Race Views prefers to talk about the here and now.
Sometimes the here and now entails stuff like reminding people Michael Waltrip is zip for 456. He's a loser.
We'll be back.
