Greetings
* In May of 1969 I bought a 1968 Mustang 2 door hardtop "Cardinal Special" and I still own it today. I am the second owner of the car. I have kept the car in its original condition except for the single exhaust has been replaced with dual exhaust. I drove the car as a daily driver for about ten years, then we used it as a second car for about 14 years, and for the past 10 years it has been garage kept and only driven to car shows that I participate in. I have attached 5 pictures of the car and would be pleased if you would include them on your web site for everyone to see this rare Mustang.

*Please note I have edit this e-mail and the Option infomation above was inculed with the photos to the right. Photos are used with permission and we Thank Frank for allowing us to present them here.

UPDATE:Jan.23,2004

Thanks to Frank and his research he has found a newspaper ad from around March 1968.This Ad by Local Virginia Ford Dealer shows the Standard equiment on the Cardinal Edition and the logo used.

Interesting the date Mar 22nd down the right side of the ad and the Dealers listed below at the footer of the ad.So from this peice of Ford Dealer History we can assume this ad was place sometime before March 22nd,1968 and it lists the equiment found on the Cardinal Special.

  • Special Emblem
  • Flip Open Chrome Gas Cap
  • 200-CU Six
  • Gt Stripe
  • Chrome wheel lip moulding
  • wheel covers
  • Special Paint
  • Black interior

Greetings,

In 1969 I bought a 68 Mustang in Boone, NC, that had a Cardinal emblem on the rear side of the roof panel. It was simply a gold emblem with a red cardinal on it, no writing or other markings. The car was the coupe body style, red in color with black interior. It had the 289 engine with 2 barrel carb and three speed manual. It had the factory fog lights mounted in the grill.

While I was a student at the University of Tennessee, I saw another just like mine driven by a beautiful young lady. Too bad, but I never got a chance to meet her. I always wondered if this was some sort of special edition and just found your web site to confirm this. I'm sorry to say I sold mine in 1973 for $700. I would give $7000 to get it back. Thanks for making information on these fine cars available.
