Mustang Club of America

In 1968 the California Western Region Ford Dealers offered a limited production Mustang based on the Shelby Mustang Gt that was planned but not produced. It was a base model Hardtop with added body componets and mid-body stripping.
The car was to be named "The California Special".
The GT/CS was built out of the San Jose,California Plant.
I don't have the production numbers on this Mustang, however this Mustang is,in my view, one of the most sought after due to the clean lines and "ducktail" spoiler.

PERSONAL NOTE

I was once at a car show (1994) in Norfolk ,Va. admiring a "California Special" when the owner ask if I were interested in buying it.I asked if it was a "real" GT/CS and he replied yes.I said "no thank"-Why?

The assembly plant code was"F"(Dearborn Mich.)-a word to the wise-check first-spend money later-there's a lot of California Special's that aren't.

For more information and photos I suggest you take a trip to www.californiaspecial.com There you will also find information on the California Special Registry and a Gallery of Photos sent in by Owners.
If you own a California Special and have not been to this site do so today,Jon has done an excellent job !
