How does a Remote Control Extender work?

1. You press a button on the remote control handset
2. The RCX receives the signal
3. The RCX forwards the signal to the living room
4. An IR signal is sent to the device

The controlled device does not know that it has "been fooled". It thinks that someone with a remote control handset is standing right in front.

The Remote Control Extender extends the range of remote controls of audio/visual and security/automation equipment. The Remote Control Extender allows the original remote control (or a universal remote control) to be used in a different room to the equipment, without direct line of sight - a useful help for the disabled. The infrared signal from the equipment remote control is detected by one of the Remote Control Extender's bedroom units. This signal is then relayed via the mains to the Remote Control Extender's living room unit which transmits an identical control signal, thereby making all equipment in the room believe the remote control had been used in the living room (or wherever the entertainment center is located in the house).
